On Wednesday, Russia accused Ukraine of trying to carry out an attack on the Kremlin, the seat of the Russian government in Moscow. The aim of the Ukrainian offensive was to assassinate Vladimir Putin.

The accusation was made by the administration itself and reported by news agencies in Russia. The allegation came amid rumors of an expected Ukrainian counter-offensive in the war.

The Kremlin said it considered the attack a “planned terrorist action”, reported RIA, the country’s main news agency.

“The Kremlin assessed these actions as a planned terrorist act and an attempt to assassinate the president on the eve of Victory Day, the May 9 parade. The Russian side reserves the right to take retaliatory measures where and when it sees fit,” he said.

Two drones would have been used in the attack attempt, but they were disabled by Russian defense systems.

Putin was not injured and there was no material damage to the buildings. Even after the incident, the Russian president did not change his schedule and continued to work normally.

Named a “special military operation” by Vladimir Putin, the conflict between Russia and Ukraine began on February 24, 2022. An end to the conflict or a possible truce between both nations still seems a long way off.

The number of deaths in the war is not accurate, but it is estimated that thousands of lives have already been lost since the beginning of the conflict.

In November last year, General Mark Milley, the US Chief of Staff, said that 100,000 Russian soldiers, 100,000 Ukrainians, as well as 40,000 Ukrainian civilians had already been killed or wounded, according to a report by the BBC. .
