A Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) announced the successful maiden flight of the new commercial cargo drone, the HH-100, held at the general aviation airport Lantianin Xian, in the province of Shaanxi.
The event marks a significant step for Beijing in expanding the drone market, strengthening the unmanned vehicle sector and brutally reducing dependence on road transport.
O HH-100described by AVIC as “high payload and low cost“, demonstrated performance in accordance with requirements during its test flight.
This drone has a maximum take-off capacity of 2.000 kg and can transport up to 700 kg payload, reaching a maximum cruising speed of 300 km/h and operating at a maximum altitude of 5.000 metros.
Initially intended for extension logistics, or short-range deliveries, the HH-100 can also be used in operations such as combating forest fires, delivery of relief materials e weather modificationas mentioned by AVIC.
The growth of the civilian drone industry in China has been 32% in the last year, reaching 117.4 billion yuan (approximately 16.2 billion dollars).
The country now hosts more than 2,300 civilian drone companies it’s at mass production of over 1,000 drone productsaccording to data from the Chinese Center for Information Industry Development.
Analysts point out that the abundance of low-cost materials and the competitive advantage in lithium batteries in China are crucial to the sector’s continued development.
The country’s low-altitude market was valued at more than 500 billion yuan in 2023with expectations of exceeding 1 trillion yuan by 2026.
AVIC, upon completing the inaugural flight of the HH-100reaffirms China’s commitment to solidifying its low-altitude economy and strategically developing the emerging commercial drone industry.
