The scandal of recent days in relation to the attempted border crossing in which the now former senator Edgardo Kueider tried to cross the border with more than USD 200,000 without declaring, once again exposed the network of corruption around the Bases law.

Kueider, a senator from Entre Ríos who had taken office for the Frente de Todos, accompanying the ticket of Alberto Fernandez and Cristina Kirchner, raised his hand to vote in favor of the “foundational” law of the libertarian government. Without Kueider’s vote, the ruling party would have been defeated by one vote and Victoria Villarruel would not have had the opportunity to break the tie. That’s how treacherous it is.

Finally, the approval of said law gave fundamental support to the adjustment, to aspects of regressive labor reform and free way to begin the privatization process of some state companies, among many other regressive guidelines. It wasn’t free. Kueider was rewarded with his appointment as head of the Constitutional Affairs Commission and his name sounded strong to be appointed as head of the Bicameral Commission for the Supervision of Intelligence Agencies and Activities.

The official’s role during this Thursday, first proposing the suspension and then joining the expulsion vote so as not to be exposed, reflects the attempt to favor the Entre Ríos native. Favor with favor is repaid.

Let us remember that it was not the only scandal surrounding the votes to approve said law: the granting of the UNESCO embassy to Neuquén senator Lucía Crexell. Also striking was the vote of the Peronist senators Guillermo Andrada, Carolina Moisés and Sandra Mendoza giving their vote for the RIGI or the particular absence of the Santa Cruz senators Carambia and Gadano to facilitate certain votes in particular.

Overall, the approval of a law with brutal consequences for the vast majority, approved in a scandalous manner. Added to the obvious corruption are the repeated repressions commanded by Patricia Bullrich, including the manhunt with dozens of detainees when the law was being discussed in the Senate.

It is with these foundations that the Left Front proposes the immediate annulment of the Bases law, a law corrupt from its origins. For this, a bill has been presented in the Chamber of Deputies awaiting its treatment. It is essential to repudiate Mieli’s scandalous circus and his corrupt arrangements with those he calls caste.
