The World Bank compromises $ 1 billion to help recover Lebanon, focusing on infrastructure, renovations and partnerships to ensure a promising future
Lebanese Finance Minister Yassine Jaber revealed on Friday that the World Bank is working to establish a $ 1 billion reconstruction fund for Lebanon as part of the continuous efforts to support the country’s economic recovery.
According to the Xinhua agency, his comments were made after a meeting with Ousmane Dione, vice president of the World Bank for the Middle East and North Africa region.
Jaber expressed gratitude for the continuous assistance of the World Bank, describing his support as crucial to the urgent needs of Lebanon’s infrastructure and reconstruction.
“A preliminary recovery plan was discussed with the World Bank last week, and we are working to accelerate the necessary reforms to ensure its approval,” said Lebanese minister.
He added that several projects have already been approved or are in the process of approval, and the priority is now to accelerate their implementation.
For his part, Dione detailed Lebanon Emergency Assistance Program (Leap) of US $ 1 billion. The World Bank compromised $ 250 million. The remaining funds are guaranteed through donor partners and allies from Lebanon.
“The time factor is crucial,” Dione emphasized, emphasizing the need for fast action to deliver results and meet the expectations of the Lebanese people. He also stressed the importance of transparency, responsibility and digital transformation in strengthening governance.
Regarding financing conditions, Dione clarified that while the World Bank does not impose terms, he expects Lebanon to implement the necessary reforms to instill confidence between investors and international partners. “This is a partnership, not an imposition. However, measures to increase credibility are essential to reassure investors and attract more support, ”he explained.
