Or Court of Hasslehölmalready Swedengranted a partial disability pension to Roger Tullgrenaged 42, for recognizing him as ‘addicted‘ em heavy metal. The case, which occurred in 2015, was highlighted in a recent LinkedIn post by Francisco Trujilloprofessor of Labor and Social Security Law at Jaume I Castellón University.
Roger Tullgren, after a decade of legal struggles, managed to have his intense dedication to heavy metal recognized as a condition that limits his ability to maintain a stable job.
“I have been trying for ten years to have my situation recognized as a disability. I spoke to several psychologists who confirmed that I suffer from discrimination,” said Tullgren.
Tullgren’s passion for heavy metal began in his youth and intensified, significantly affecting his professional life.
In 2006, he attended more than 300 heavy metal concerts, which often resulted in dismissals. According to him, his need to attend such events made any conventional work routine unsustainable.
The legal process culminated in 2015 with the court recognizing his condition, which granted him a monthly allowance of 400 euros.
This financial arrangement has allowed Tullgren to maintain a part-time job as a dishwasher at a restaurant, where he has the freedom to wear his heavy metal clothing while working.
According to him, this arrangement offers an ideal balance to reconcile his passion for music with his professional responsibilities.
This decision was highlighted by Trujillo as a landmark moment for both Swedish legislation and the heavy metal community, highlighting the uniqueness of the case in a global context.
