The provincial senate, with votes from the PJ, approved the Environmental Impact Statement of the San Jorge project. In the street, a massive mobilization that came from all over the province repudiates this delivery of our natural common goods.

Thousands of Mendoza residents arrived marching through the East and South Accesses to converge at the Road Junction, the main access to the City of Mendoza, and mobilize to the provincial Legislature.

There this Tuesday the Senate will try to vote on the San Jorge project, in the midst of a massive mobilization from across the province to reject it. Despite the Government’s attempts to establish that mining has a social license in Mendoza, since this Monday, thousands of people left from different parts of the province in the Liberating Gesta for Water, which traveled more than 80 km on foot, passing through different departments in which more people joined, to arrive this Tuesday in the City of Mendoza and shout very loudly. Mendoza water is not negotiated!

Accompanying the mobilization is the national deputy Nicolás del Caño (Frente de Izquierda Unidad), who was in many of the mobilizations that, throughout these years, defended water against the extractivist advance of all governments and employers’ political parties.

Despite the police intimidation prepared by the provincial government, Popular resistance against the San Jorge mining project does not stop growing. Teachers, students, representatives of the environmental assemblies along with combative sectors, health among others, will be present this Tuesday.

The resistance of the people of Mendoza questions the extractivist consensus that Milei (and the governors of the mining provinces) promote at the national level. Hand in hand with the RIGI and other agreements, it seeks to impose an agenda for the delivery of natural common goods, increasing environmental damage on entire populations.
