If one checks their X (Twitter) account, the CGT seems quite active. A post practically every day, about a multitude of things, denounced, even, the adjustment policies of the national government. However, between words and actions, there is still a considerable distance.
There is no shortage of facts to respond to. The Government is advancing in the health adjustment with layoffs in different sectors. As in the AMONGwhere They already register more than 250 layoffs which include doctors, anesthetists, social workers, as well as psychologists. The consequences are already being seen: suspension of surgeries, lack of care and coverage. That is to say, even more brutal mistreatment of retirees. There, in response to the attack, assemblies and organization began in each office.
This attack is also seen in the Hospital Bonapartewhich resists more than 200 layoffs, something that implies an emptying. “Without workers there is no mental health”denounce those who finance the operation of that health center. They have come from a massive hug to the hospital, where they had the support of patients, neighbors, social, union, human rights organizations and national and provincial deputies, among others.
The denialist government has been emptying, saying goodbye and trying to close the Sites of Memory. They want to erase the memory of the genocide that occurred in 1976-1983, which allowed big businessmen to amass fortunes while crushing a generation of workers and popular fighters. In this fight, which also comes from important events of struggle, another slogan also resonates: “Without workers there is no memory.”
The attacks do not only occur in the State. In the private sector, employers have been moving forward with closures, layoffs and salary freezes. There is, furthermore, clearly persecutory dismissals.
like those who have place in shellthe oil multinational that has already fired several workers in a discriminatory manner: these are, essentially, those who denounce working conditions within the company. There is also resistance: this Friday afternoon a rally will take place in front of the refinery in Dock Sud.
Or those that take place in the Japanese multinational Pilkingtonwhere workers were fired in the middle of their vacation. This is a clear attack on those who organize and denounce the deplorable working conditions, which lead to illnesses and constant physical damage to the workers.
The attacks are also on salary. The Government tries to move forward with an agenda towards joint ventures that freezes them. A scheme of “zero parity” that implies consolidating the salary loss that all employees have had since Milei came to power.
This is evident, right now, in the negotiation with the railway workers. The miserable employer offer pushed The Brotherhood (engine drivers) to call a national strike for this January 28. It will be between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and there could be new fighting measures if there is no rapprochement of positions.
These are not the only attacks. Both the Government and the employers want to advance even further against the working class and the popular sectors. And in the face of all this, the CGT remains in a truce, with a huge sector of the Peronist union leadership negotiating with the Milei management.
It is necessary to force them to break that truce. Below there is resistance: This is shown by the protest actions at the Bonaparte Hospital, at the Sites of Memory and in other places. This is also shown by the protest actions against discriminatory dismissals at Shell and Pilkington. It is necessary strengthen that resistance, betting on coordination between the different fightsadding to the neighborhood assemblies, social, union, and human rights organizations and seeking the support of the political sectors that face the adjustment or say they reject it. The Left Front, as always, is on the front line of every measure of struggle and resistance.
Only with organization from below can the bureaucratic leadership of the CGT be imposed and other unions break the truce.
