In Bullrich mode. Even when the day was halfway over, far from the end, the large communication companies had decided to start a fierce demonization campaign that sought to hide the obvious: the growth of anger and social opposition to an economic and political plan that increasingly pushes large sectors of the working class towards the precariousness of life, as well as the willingness to fight of important sectors of the working class and youth.
Along with the former Minister of Security and now senator, the media groups sought to stigmatize the protesters who were protesting with legitimate reason against the labor reform, trying to reverse the public debate.
In other words: a government (and its related media) that in just over two years applied a chainsaw, repressed social protest, voted laws in favor of the great economic power and subordinated the country to Donald Trump, and that now seeks to advance a labor slavery law to attack the right to organize, facilitate layoffs, divide vacations, question overtime and extend the working day, among many other items, He sought to show himself as a victim of the mobilization. Only the right-wing of the media system can explain why this ridiculous operation took place.
However, In the afternoon-night all the lies were laid bare. After the first repressions, a few thousand protesters returned to the National Congress area, while other new ones arrived after work, and were “received” by an indiscriminate hunt that shot, gassed and detained dozens of people who were demonstrating. It was clear that this was the official objective from the first hour of the day. Everything else is excuses. The government achieved the half-sanction but at the same time failed in a central objective: in exchange for making concessions to the governors in terms of profits, and for negotiating a few very few points with the CGT (handing over the workers), it wanted to have a peaceful day to give a signal of “governability” to financial capital, but it did not achieve it. The streets were not quiet.
From her social networks, Myriam Bregman clearly referred to the situation: “Patricia Bullrich is so broken that It was forgotten that brutal reforms generate resistance. If youth are robbed of their future, they will have to conquer it through struggle. Violence is lying. Violence is voting for a reform against the people. Violence is going with a clean shot from motorcycles. “Ridiculous to think that attacks can happen without anyone resisting or raising their voice.”
By night, this crude operation by the government and the media had been seriously questioned and the underlying issue became evident: We are facing a national government and a great economic power that are sustained based on repression, the support of Donald Trump and the complicity of the union bureaucracy and the complicit opposition. But still, that cannot hide the growing social discontent. The day before, Indec had reported – even with the old methodology, due to government intervention – that January inflation was 2.9%the highest since last March, questioning the disinflationwhich has been its main workhorse. At the same time, the chainsaw project, adjustment, lower consumption, cheap dollar, import opening and submission to Trump and the IMF is generating a crisis in a large part of the real economy, with the loss of thousands of jobswhile other major political problems such as the crisis with the police in Santa Fe are also part of the political scenario. The government fails to recover the real economy, control inflation, or show scenes of political and social peace. To that he wants to add the labor slavery project.
In this sense, the event acted as a channel for expressing rejection of the labor reform, but, much more profoundly, for broad social opposition to the government. In a commendable way, The thousands of people who mobilized and resisted the repression did so despite the CGT triumvirate that acted in total betrayal.not just now, but for long months that it has been negotiating reforms with the government without even calling for a national strike and plan of struggle. The lukewarm call for this Wednesday’s day, without a strike and with “freedom of action” for the unions, and with the last straw of even taking over the square in front of Congress or even holding a rally, sought to be functional to a policy of negotiation with the far-right government to let the essential part of the plan pass, and to prevent the full social force of the working class from being expressed. However, The anger is accumulating, the CGT triumvirate is discredited like never before and thousands of people still looked for a way to express their anger and resistance.even going after their working hours, when the repression had already been unleashed.
Still, it’s not just Milei and the CGT. Very early in the morning, Governor Martín Llaryora of Cordoban Peronism began the day with repression of those who were demonstrating in that province against the labor reform. Since, it should be noted, The day of struggle was not only in the City of Buenos Aires, but was national. The day continued with the opening of the session in the Senate thanks to a Freedom Advances The UCR, the PRO and sectors of Peronism provided him with a quorum. It is nothing new: from the beginning of Milei’s government, many of these accomplices were the ones who facilitated the approval of the Bases Law and so many other adjustment and delivery regulations. One fact not to forget: those who discussed the job insecurity of millions on the premises are senators who earn 10 million pesos a month, in addition to having, in almost all cases, millionaire assets.
The political regime expresses reality in a very distorted way. Between an ruling party that was in total crisis, economic debacle and scandals and was only saved in October by the rescue of Donald Trump that allowed him to win the elections more out of fear of chaos than out of support, and a fragmented, complicit and in crisis regime opposition, none of these actors express the deep social discontent that exists. That is the underlying reason why new combative sectors are beginning to emerge that are looking for another way out.
In this framework, the working class and youth can only trust in their own strength. Faced with a government that has nothing to offer other than attacks and faced with a directionless Peronism, there is another bet: to risk putting the working class back on its feet, with a great challenge from today, which is to redouble the fight in each workplace, study and in each neighborhood to fight to impose from below an active national strike and a plan of struggle on the path of popular rebellion and the general strike, facing the treatment of the labor reform in Deputies. This includes a great fight from below promoting the broadest struggle committees, as well as a complaint to the leadership of the CGT but also a demand to the union leaderships of CTA, UOM, Oilers, Bankers and all the unions that present themselves as more combative but have conciliatory lines.
This Wednesday was the first round of a fight that has just begun. Even if it is finally approved by the Deputies in a few weeks, the labor reform will face thousands of episodes of resistance in every place that wants to apply job insecurity and layoffs. Lustramax, Garrahan and many other places, they anticipate it.
The PTS and the Left Front They are extremely committed to this perspective and are a factor that has been playing a growing role in these fights. They come from 2025 in which they supported all the struggles and also achieved a strong prestige that was expressed electorally as a combative statement for always being where you need to bewith the retirees, with the Garrahan, with the Disability groups and all the sectors in struggle, while many looked the other way, being passive accomplices of Milei.
But that policy did not take a vacation, but continued for all summer deploying an immense campaign of agitation against labor reformnot only in the usual places of militancy, but also contributing forces to reinforce large tourist centers such as Mar del Plata or Córdoba, among others, with small planes and millions of posters and flyers. Also, pouring energy into the most important struggles such as Lustramax or the Garrahan and betting on setting up instances of coordination to surround the struggles but also to build volumes of force to dispute the base of the unions and fight to impose a national struggle plan from below. All this, while deploying an anti-imperialist agitation campaign against Trump’s attack on Venezuela, threats to Cuba and Iran or supporting the workers’ and peasants’ struggle in Bolivia.
This Wednesday all that activity and that orientation was reflected in the streets, with the thousands who participated alongside the left in a critical and independent way from the CGT call, but also with the enormous recognition that there was in the streets of our party and its main references such as Myriam Bregman, Nicolás del Caño or Christian Castillo who were side by side with thousands and are recognized as important references of the struggles and to offer a perspective that neither the union bureaucracy nor Peronism offer today. Today no fight ended, but another stage begins. Those conquered footholds will be put at the service of the fight when it comes to Deputies, the next season. To all the colleagues with whom we share so many challenges in the streets, we propose to face this new chapter together starting today. In the coming days, the PTS will be calling for open meetings in which we invite you to participate. These fights are in our hands and are part of the construction of a great party of the new working class that provides another way out of capitalist decadence.
