Alexandre de Moraes reacts to US pressures, reinforces Brazilian sovereignty and criticizes external attempts at interference in the national judiciary
Minister Alexandre de Moraes of the Federal Supreme Court reacted to criticism of the United States government to Brazilian courts and reinforced the sovereignty of the country. “We are no longer a colony on September 7, 1822 and with courage we are building an ever better republic,” Alexandre said at the beginning of the Supreme Thursday (27).
The statement was made amid movements of the US Congress and Allies of US President Donald Trump against the minister. This week, a commission of the House of Representatives approved a project that seeks to prevent Alexandre from entering the country. The proposal, entitled “Without Censors in our territory”, provides restrictions on any individual classified as a “foreign agent” who limits the freedom of expression of citizens of the United States.
In addition, the Rumble Video Platform, associated with Trump companies, called Alexandre in US courts, alleging that their decisions hurt freedom of expression by imposing rules of Brazilian law on social networks. The minister determined Rumble’s blockade in Brazil for breach of court decisions.
Sovereign country
In his response, Alexandre also mentioned the 73 years of the inauguration of the United Nations headquarters in New York, highlighting the importance of the struggle against “fascism, Nazism and imperialism.” The magistrate reinforced his commitment to democracy, human rights and equality between nations.
Alexandre also thanked Minister Flávio Dino, who spoke in his favor. “Without coercion or hierarchy between states, it is with respect to the self -determination of peoples and equality between the countries we follow. As Minister Dino recalled, it is a principle assured by Article 4 of our Constitution. ”
The president of the Supreme Court, Minister Luis Roberto Barroso, also came out in defense of Alexandre and made indirect criticism of pockets.
“The attempt to prevail the narrative of those who supported the failed blow will not overlap between people truly good and democrats.”
Barroso stressed the challenges faced to ensure the institutional stability of the country. “We well know what we had to pass to avoid the collapse of institutions and a coup of state.”
