The general secretary of Vox, Ignacio Garriga, has announced the suspension of budget negotiations with the PP in all the autonomous communities where they depend on the support of those of Santiago Abascal after learning, as they say, that the ‘popular’ “plan to negotiate immigration policies with the PSOE.”
“We are not going to participate in the distribution of illegal immigration and insecurity that Feijóo and Sánchez intend. If the PP wants to continue promoting the policies of the PSOE, it should negotiate the budgets with them. Vox’s pulse is not going to tremble,” Garriga assured during a visit to the Barcelona neighborhood of Besòs-Maresme to denounce the growth of insecurity in the area.
The president of the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, announced on Monday that this Thursday a three-way meeting will be held with the central government and the PP to try to unblock the reform of the immigration law and be able to refer migrant minors to other autonomous communities on a mandatory basis.
In statements to journalists, he said that the time remains to be set and he is “optimistic” to close a proposal to defend before the Conference of Presidents on December 13, which in the case of the Canary Islands already has a unanimous position, with the exception of Vox, agreed in the ‘Canarian Pact for Immigration’.
“This week we can have the answer and if not, as I have already said, on the 13th, which is the Conference of Presidents, the Canary Islands will bring their proposal with a broad political agreement. We would like unanimity, but we already know that Vox and the extreme right have other completely contrary theses, but the reality is that the Canary Islands, the vast majority of the Canary Islands, will be able to speak and bring a concrete proposal to that Conference where all the presidents are. autonomous communities and the president,” he explained.
The PP rejects the order
The economic deputy secretary of the PP, Juan Bravo, rejected Vox’s order this Wednesday. “Our position is not going to change. It is a position of solidarity and joint work to try to help the territory of the Canary Islands, Ceuta and Melilla,” Bravo said in a press conference in the Senate to present the amendments to the fiscal package approved by Congress two weeks ago. Regarding Vox, Bravo has said: “Those who do not want to support us will have to explain themselves.”
Bravo has also opened the door to receiving support from other groups in the regional parliaments if Vox follows through on its threat. “Our vocation is to try to get budgets,” he said. “When the time for the vote arrives, the different political parties will have to decide, not only us, but the rest, the PSOE, Podemos, Sumar, etc.”
In any case, Bravo has assumed that its communities can continue governing without 2025 budgets, although it will be “a greater difficulty.”
Later, the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, indirectly referred to the order launched by Vox. In an event about the Constitution, Feijóo said: “The PP is going to continue defending its principles and its convictions without submitting, without submitting to blackmail of any kind, neither from one side nor the other.”
Instability increases in communities governed by the minority PP
In the case of Extremadura, this Wednesday the deadline for amendments to the Budgets opened, whose vote is scheduled for January 24, 2025 and on which the far-right party has “little hope” that it will go ahead.
Vox now He stated on Monday that the reception of migrants was one of his red lines and they consider that the president of the Board, María Guardiola, is preparing an electoral advance taking advantage of the accusation of the general secretary of the regional PSOE in the case that affects the brother of Pedro Sánchez.
In Aragon, the Government led by Jorge Azcón has disdained Vox’s announcement and assures that the negotiations on the regional Budgets “have not even started.” “It is not reasonable to block the budgets that the Autonomous Community needs by linking them decisively to the problem of immigration, which is a state and international issue,” the autonomous Executive added this Wednesday.
Furthermore, the Aragonese government describes it as “shocking” that Vox “does not want to participate in its embodiment in the Aragonese social reality through public accounts, even more so when there are many more postulates that bring PP and Vox closer in this matter than the that differentiate them.”
In the Valencian Community the regional budgets are up in the air due to DANA. The Consell of Carlos Mazón had planned to present the preliminary project on October 30, but the floods on the 29th altered their plans. The Executive considers that the planned accounts have nothing to do with reality and the needs for 2025 and is working to redo all the budgets to adapt them to reconstruction.
In addition, Mazón has created two new departments that also need to establish their accounts and structure. The Executive plans to present a new project in January, but will have to extend its current accounts and work with credit modifications, not an easy task. After the break with Vox, the PP governs alone and in a parliamentary minority: it has 40 deputies out of 99. It remains to be known if the Valencian socialists would finally be willing to support the accounts of the Valencian government as proposed in the days after the DANA.
Meanwhile, in the Balearic Islands, the extreme right has demanded the elimination of Catalan as the language of public schools in exchange for supporting the budgets of the PP, which governs as a minority. After on Tuesday they overturned the 2025 accounts in the first vote, they now demand in exchange for their support that the Government go against what was established in this regard by the Linguistic Normalization Law of 1986, which forces institutions to ensure the knowledge and progressive use of one’s own language – as considered by the Balearic Statute of Autonomy – in the field of education.
For his part, the PP spokesperson in the Balearic Parliament, Sebastià Sagreras, has warned that he “will not accept blackmail” from Vox to approve the regional Budgets, stating that he will “continue negotiating” with all parliamentary groups.
In Murcia, where Fernando López Miras, of the PP, also needs the votes of Vox, the regional leader of that formation, José Ángel Antelo, has conditioned the 2025 budgets on the “immediate reversal” of the distribution of irregular migrants: “The PP breached the signed agreement by accepting the distribution of illegal immigrants. This must be reversed if they want to have our support in the budgets,” he warned the Regional Government during the control session.
In Castilla y León the two formations were not negotiating next year’s accounts. Vox has refused to attend the meetings to which the Minister of Economy, Carlos Fernández Carriedo, has summoned him, who has held a meeting with the leaders of the political groups, who have urged the president of the Junta de Castilla y León , Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, to register the Budgets at the parliamentary headquarters to negotiate them in the corresponding commissions.
