The US embassy in Brazil issued a statement on Wednesday (25) informing that it will proceed with the verification of profiles on social networks of all student visas and exchange visits.
“To make this verification viable, all student visa applicants (F, M and J) must adjust the privacy settings of their social media profiles to ‘public’ mode,” the embassy said in a statement released on its official website.
Type F visa is requested by those who want to enter the country to study at a university or school. The M type visa is for students from vocational or non -academic institutions. And the visa is for exchange students.
The US government justified with the argument that it uses “all available information” to find out whether or not entry visa applicants represent a threat to that country’s security.
The note released on Wednesday directs to the Brazilian public a measure announced a week ago by the US State Department. At the time, a telegram of this organ of the Government of Donald Trump stated that consulate employees will be required to perform a “comprehensive and complete verification” of all students and exchange participants to identify those who “have hostile attitudes” in relation to citizens, culture, government, institutions or founding principles of the United States.
