This Saturday hundreds of thousands of people in the United States took to the streets to oppose what the organizers of the protests called the “exaggerated authoritarian agenda and backed by billionaires” by Donald Trump.

The organizers estimated that more than 500,000 people demonstrated in Washington DC, there were also massive demonstrations in New York, Chicago, Florida and other places.

In the National Mall of Washington, protesters from places as far away as New Hampshire and Pennsylvania met in the shadow of the Washington monument before the anti-trump demonstration that took place there.

Some protesters expressed that the protest – the first mass demonstration in Washington DC since Trump assumed the position – served as an example to inspire others to express their opposition. “The goal is for people to get up,” the Guardian, Diane Kolifrath who traveled from New Hampshire with 100 colleagues from New Hampshire Forward, told the Guardian newspaper.

Moveon, one of the organizations behind the protest day called “Hands OFF”, together with dozens of labor, environmentalist groups and other progressive groups, said that more than 1,000 protests were carried out throughout the United States, even in state capitolios.

The scene in Hollywood, Florida, one hour south of the Trump Mar-A-Lago Resort, was also animated. Referring to the billionaire business advisor of the White House, Elon Musk, and the government cuts that he has supervised, the protesters, predominantly white, chanted: “Hey, hey, hey, Jo, Jo, Trump and Musk have to leave.”

The protests occur after the collapse of the bag this week after the announcement of Trump tariffs on April 1. Despite the economic consequences, Trump declared Friday: “My policies will never change.”

Trump’s approval index fell to 43%, its lowest level since it took office, according to a Reuters survey
