European Union and France press Washington, highlighting the violation of the principle of equality between Member States
On the eve of the UN General Assembly, the Global Dialogue Maximum Forum, a unilateral decision of the United States echoes louder than any prepared speech: the denial of visas to the entire Palestinian delegation, including its veteran 89 -year -old president Mahmud Abbas. This act is not a mere administrative formality; It is a calculated diplomatic aggression that exposes the fragility of international law, the bias of American foreign policy and the brutal disconnection between the salons of power and the bloody reality lived by the Palestinian people. In preventing the Palestinian presence, Washington not only violates his obligations as a UN host country, but tries to silence a nation at the exact moment the world begins to mobilize to finally recognize his sovereignty.
The illegality of the measure is blatant and undeniable. The United Nations Headquarters Agreement is explicit: the host country should not prevent the access of official delegations. The European Union, through its main diplomat, Kaja Kallas, has already asked the decision to be reconsidered, underlining consensus among the European ministers. French minister Jean-Noël Barrot was even more direct, classifying the restriction as a “clear violation of the principle of equality between Member States”.

When Washington’s closest allies are forced to rebuke it publicly, it is clear that it is not a matter of interpretation, but a deliberate contempt for the rules that support the multilateral order. The United States is abusing its geographical privilege to exercise illegitimate veto power, turning New York into a stage accessible only to those who align with their interests and their main ally in the region, Israel.
The moment chosen for this action reveals its true political intention. The decision to block the Palestinian delegation arises precisely when France leads a robust effort to the formal recognition of the Palestinian State in the UN summit, a movement that gains traction with the declared support of countries such as Canada and Australia, and the positive signaling of the United Kingdom.
The US and Israel’s response – accusing proponents of “rewarding Hamas” – is a curtain of cynical smoke. The real goal is to sabotage a historical diplomatic advance and prevent the Palestine cause from gaining a legitimate victory in the world scenario. Silencing Mahmud Abbas and its 80 employees is a desperate attempt to empty Palestine’s chair so that the occupation narrative can continue without counterpoint.
While this diplomatic dispute unfolds in air -conditioned offices, the reality in Gaza is of fire and death. The contradiction is morally frightening: the same weekend when Palestinian diplomats are prevented from speaking, Israeli bombing kill more than 50 people, raising the number of victims in 22 months to the unbearable figure of 63,371.
The Israeli Army plan to take the largest area of the besieged territory follows in progress. How can the international community accept that the voice of a people is silent while their body is systematically raped? The denial of visas is not an isolated act; It is the continuation of the policy of dehumanization and erasure by other means. It is the statement that Palestinian lives and Palestinian voices are ultimately disposable.
This episode transcends the Israeli-Palestine conflict. It has become, as analysts well observe, a “principle test” for the global system. What is at stake is whether multilateral obligations and international law will prevail over the unilateral decisions of a powerful state.
By aligning itself so explicitly with the Israeli government as to violate its own international commitments, Donald Trump’s government abdicates any claim to be an honest mediator or a guardian of the global order. On the contrary, he positions himself as an obstacle to peace and an agent of instability.
Mahmud Abbas’s empty chair at the General Assembly will not be a sign of the absence of Palestine. On the contrary, it will be an eloquent and deafening symbol of the moral bankruptcy of American foreign policy, complicity with occupation and contempt for an international system that the United States themselves helped build.
It will be the visible proof that, for Washington, the right to sovereignty and representation is only valid for some. Palestine may have been temporarily silenced, but its forced absence will speak louder than any speech could ever.
