US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin announced on Monday that he had communicated with the Israeli government, through a post on the social network X, about new military measures that strengthen the American commitment to Israeli security.
During a conversation with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, Austin stressed continued US support in the face of regional threats, especially those emanating from Iran and aligned groups such as Hezbollah.
“Today, I spoke with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant to reaffirm the United States’ commitment to defending Israel against threats posed by Iran, Lebanese Hezbollah, and other Iranian-aligned militia groups,” Austin said.
The defense secretary also mentioned a specific incident that reflects the tension in the region: the attack by Iran-aligned militias on American forces at Al-Asad Air Base in western Iraq.
This action was classified as a significant escalation in the conflict, prompting the United States to take steps to strengthen its military posture in the area in coordination with Israel.
