The government of Donald Trump in the United States imposed the sanctions of the magnitsky law on lawyer Viviane Barci de Moraes, wife of the Supreme Court (STF) Minister Alexandre de Moraes, and the Lex Institute, linked to the minister’s family. The law has reached Moraes since July 30.
The decision was published by the US Treasury Department Foreign Asset Control Office.
Magnitsky law is a mechanism provided for in US legislation used to unilaterally punish alleged human rights violators abroad. Among other points, the measure blocks goods and companies from the targets of the Sanction in the US.
Predicted sanctions include the blockade of bank accounts, assets and interests in assets within the jurisdiction on US soil, as well as the prohibition of entry into the country.
The decision of the United States government was taken 11 days after the conviction of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro at 27 years and three months in prison for an attempted coup. The rapporteur of the lawsuit that led to Bolsonaro’s conviction is Minister Alexandre de Moraes.
