This Wednesday the 8th, subway workers mobilized in front of the SBASE headquarters demanding new asbestos-free cars and that the call for bids be made effective for the purchase of trains for line B, which, they denounce, has been postponed since years ago.

In a press release, Claudio Dellecarbonara, member of the Executive Secretariat of the Union Association of Subway and Premetro Workers (AGTSyP), expressed that they will gather in Plaza Miserere from noon and then go to the City company in charge of the service administration.

Dellecarbonara stated that they will continue to denounce the health crisis that the service is going through due to the presence of asbestos, the obsolescence of fleets and the lack of maintenance and investment in the network that results in poor and unsafe service for millions of users, as well as deplorable working environments and conditions for workers.

“A service that has no relationship with the needs of the passengers, nor with the hefty ticket they pay, nor with the enormous profits of the Emova concessionaire,” he explained.

Line B deserves special mention, in which the presence of the carcinogenic asbestos in formations is added. An issue that has led to the death of 4 colleagues and 127 contracting a disease related to exposure to this material.

Despite the fact that this mineral was prohibited since the beginning of the century, neither the concessionaire company nor the different Government administrations did everything necessary to remove it and prevent them from coming into contact, he explains and urges the concessionaire company Emova and Jorge Macri to stop to deny this reality even when verified judicially.

“Immediate tender for the purchase of a new fleet without asbestos for line B. Replacement of all contaminated fleets. Deasbestization of the network, that Emova and the Government respect the laws and rulings in force. Declaration of emergency for line B against the crisis it is going through,” the statement concludes.
