Extremist Jewish settlers destroyed olive groves and properties to pressure Palestinian farmers to abandon their land

Israeli settlers carried out 71 attacks against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank between October 7 and 13, according to a UN report.

The attacks, many of them armed, resulted in the death of one man and injuries to 99 others, as documented by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

Most settler attacks hit agricultural areas just as the olive harvest began, affecting 27 Palestinian villages, with nearly half of all reported attacks linked to the harvest that began on October 9.

In the town of Deir Jarir, east of Ramallah, Israeli settlers and military forces jointly opened fire on residents after settlers pelted Palestinian vehicles with stones, resulting in the shooting death of a 26-year-old man and injuries to two others.

The attack followed months of settler expansion in the area, including a new outpost and a road connecting an Israeli military base to the village’s western entrance.

Two days later, settlers armed with rifles and batons invaded the village of Atara, also in Ramallah province, attacking residents and opening fire on Palestinian vehicles.

Three men were injured, including a 74-year-old man. Later, Israeli forces cordoned off the entrance to the village for hours, firing tear gas at residents.

OCHA noted that settler attacks in Atara have increased since the establishment of a nearby outpost in August.

On October 13, settlers accompanied by Israeli forces attacked a Palestinian family harvesting grapes in Beit Fajjar, Bethlehem province, injuring four people, including a Palestinian Red Crescent ambulance driver.

The settlers released dogs, threw Molotov cocktails and set fire to the family van.

In the village of Burqa, also in Ramallah province, settlers believed to be from the Ramat Migron outpost cut down more than 800 olive tree saplings and vandalized water tanks.

In Al-Jwaya, a village near Hebron, Molotov cocktails set fire to a family’s tent, leaving five people homeless.

According to the Commission on Colonization and Resistance to the Wall, Israeli forces and Jewish settlers have carried out at least 158 attacks on olive pickers in the occupied West Bank since the beginning of September.

Since January this year, more than 3,200 Palestinians have been injured in the occupied West Bank, including occupied East Jerusalem, an increase of almost 30% compared to last year.

Since October 7, 2023, there have been 7,154 attacks by Israeli settlers against Palestinians and their property in the occupied West Bank.

Nearly 1,000 people have been killed by soldiers and settlers since then, including more than 200 children.

OCHA also reported that one in three Palestinian requests for medical clearance to reach hospitals in occupied East Jerusalem or Israel has been denied or delayed, and ambulance crews continue to face aggression and obstruction from settlers and Israeli soldiers.

Earlier this year, The Cradle revealed how Israeli forces and the Palestinian Authority (PA) worked together during the attacks in Jenin and Tulkarem, closing hospitals and preventing ambulances from reaching the injured.

Medical workers were interrogated, some detained, and entire emergency units were surrounded for hours.

The same siege tactics that crippled Jenin’s healthcare network have spread across the occupied West Bank to the north, leaving many cities cut off from vital care.
