To deny visas to Palestinian representatives is to deny the essence of the UN as a space for dialogue, inclusion and search for international justice

The recent decision of the United States government to deny visas to Palestinian authorities on the eve of the UN General Assembly is more than an act of foreign policy. It is a direct attack on the very essence of the international community. Using their position as a united and punitive United Nations host nation, the US not only trace the spirit that governs global cooperation, but unequivocally demonstrated that they have lost moral, cognitive and geopolitical conditions to lead or even host this fundamental forum.

The attitude of the US government, communicated coldly by the State Department, reveals an alarming dissonance. While the world mobilizes to discuss the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the historical claims of the Palestinian people, Washington decides to close its doors. The justification, which accuses the Palestinian leaders of “not consistently repudiating acts of violence,” is a smoke curtain. The real intention is to silence a dissident voice, prevent the Palestinian cause from gaining strength on the most important diplomatic stage in the world.

White House cynicism reaches its peak when the contrast is observed. As Palestinian authorities seeking justice at the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice are Barradas, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, also sought by the ICC, is expected in New York without any restrictions. This double moral wide the unilateral logic that dominates US foreign policy. For Washington, the law and international order only apply when they apply to their interests, never when they expose or contradict them.

This is not the first time the US have used its host position for political purposes. The story has already recorded the refusal to enter Yasser Arafat in 1988 and Omar al-Bashir in 2013. However, the current context is particularly serious. The charges of the Palestinian Authority and the War Crimes and Genocide ULP committed by Israel in Gaza – backed by UN experts – place international diplomacy to the test. The attempt to prevent Palestinian participation in a debate that can be decisive for its future and for peace in the Middle East is ultimately an attempt to sabotage the search for justice and the responsibility of one of its main allies.

The denial of visas to legitimate representatives of Palestine is a clear symptom of a deeper disease: US inability to disentangle itself from its own prejudices and interests to act in the name of the global common good. The stance of “liable” Palestine, while ignoring the systematic violations of human rights and accusations of genocide in Gaza, is an affront to logic and morality. Washington is not promoting peace; It is, in fact, validating violence and injustice by silent victims.

The time of international compliance is over. It cannot be accepted that the headquarters of the largest global peace and cooperation organization is hostage to the political whims and selectivity of a single country. The international community must react to this act of arrogance. It is not enough to regret; It is necessary to act. The only response to the height of the US attitude is to transfer the headquarters of the United Nations to another country, preferably in Asia, where multilateralism and the search for a new geopolitical balance are increasingly gaining strength. Cities like Shanghai or Beijing would be excellent options, not only for their growing importance in the global scenario, but for symbolizing a new era, far from hegemony and selective morality of the West.

Changing the UN headquarters would not be a mere symbolic act. It would be a definitive act that the world no longer accepts to be guided by arrogance and disrespect for a power that lost its ethical course. It would be the reaffirmation that the UN is an organization of all peoples, not an extension of US foreign policy. The world calls for leadership that does not use the right to host to silence the oppressed. The world calls for a headquarters that, in fact, the house of all nations, not just the ones who appropriate Washington.
