Ukraine has reached an agreement with the United States on a large raw material deal. The British newspaper The Financial Times (FT) reports this on the basis of statements by the Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Olha Stefanishyna. The Ukrainian National Omroep Suspilne also confirms the news, although there is still an official response from American authorities.
Investments in Ukrainian projects
According to the agreement viewed by FT, 50 percent of the proceeds from the extraction of mineral raw materials in Ukraine will be deposited into a special fund. This fund is specifically set up to finance new projects within Ukraine. It is striking that income from existing projects, such as those of the state gas company Naftogaz, do not have to be housed in the fund.
In an earlier proposal from the US, it was still required that half of the income from raw materials, ports and infrastructure would be housed in an American fund, until an amount of $ 500 billion was reached. President VolodyMyr Zensky was resolutely abandoned this plan. “I will not sign anything that the next ten generations have to be paid,” he said last Sunday.
Although Zelensky previously emphasized that he would only sign if the deal were accompanied by new military support and security guarantees from the US, there seems to be nothing about this in the final agreement. The new agreement states that Ukraine and the US will jointly reclaim raw materials, including oil, gas and rare minerals. The controversial requirement of former President Donald Trump to secure $ 500 billion in rare minerals is also completely off the table.
Crypto races are shooting up
The news about the raw material deal had an immediate impact on the cryptomarket. The Bitcoin price rose by 1.5 percent within an hour, while XRP even made a jump of more than 3 percent. Despite this revival, however, the rates remain in the red. Earlier today, the cryptomarkt was hit hard by a hefty crash, which means that many crypto coins suffer considerable losses.
