President Donald Trump warned this Saturday that there will be “serious consequences” if his new best friend, Elon Musk, finances Democratic candidates who compete against Republicans who vote in favor of their mega tax law, qualified by “abomination” by the owner of Tesla.
“If you do, you will have to face the consequences,” Trump said in a telephone interview with NBC News, although he did not explain what these consequences would consist of: “You will have to pay very serious consequences if you do.”
The US president also assured that he has no interest in repairing his relationship with Musk after the public confrontation between the two this week. “No,” he replied bluntly. Is your relationship with the CEO of Tesla and Spacex ended? “I guess yes,” he replied.
Trump also said not to have expected to talk to Musk soon. “I am too busy with other things, I have no intention of talking to him.” Trump also accused Musk of being “disrespectful with the presidency” of the US: “I think it is something very serious, because it is being very disrespectful. You cannot miss the respect for the president’s position.”
On Thursday, Musk launched a series of publications against the president, including one – who then eliminated – in which he highlighted the old links between Trump and the late sexual offender Jeffrey Epstein.
“That is old,” Trump said, “even Epstein’s lawyer said that I had nothing to do. It’s old news.”
This Saturday, Trump said he has not thought about the possibility of breaking public agreements with Musk companies. “I could do it, but no, I have not considered it.”
Trump also responded to external allies’ calls, such as Steve Bannon, who have asked to investigate Musk’s businesses and their migratory history. The US president told NBC News that “it is not something that I have in mind right now.”
According to Trump, the dispute with Musk has helped to make visible the advantages of his bill: “I think, in reality, Elon helped show the virtues of the project, because it made people who were not so attentive begin to focus, and now they see how good it is. So, in that sense, it was a great favor. But I think Elon… in short, it is a penalty that is so depressed and with a broken heart.
