In the aftermath of a massive Russian air raid on Ukraine, President Donald Trump fiercely taken out to Vladimir Putin. According to Trump, the Russian leader is “completely turned” and responsible for killing countless citizens. His statements stand out because of the much sharper tone that he is now striking in relation to earlier statements about the conflict.

Trump: “Putin has turned through”

Trump was known for years for his mild attitude towards the Kremlin. Yet on Sunday he wrote on Truth Social:

“I always had a good relationship with Vladimir Putin, but something has changed. He has completely turned. He kills people for no reason – and I am not just talking about soldiers.”

Heaviest attack since the start of war

According to the authorities, the Russian attack on Ukraine was the heaviest since the start of the war. Several cities were hit, with at least twelve people killed – including children. Hundreds of drones and missiles were launched in the night.

In response to the events, Trump not only focused his arrows on Putin, but also on the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zensky. He had stated earlier in the day that “the silence of America” is playing Putin. Trump responded fiercely: “Zensky does not enjoy his country by allowing himself to be out that way. Everything he says leads to problems. I don’t like it and it has to stop.”

At the same time, Trump announced that he was now open to extra measures against Russia. He stated to reporters “absolutely” willing to consider his additional sanctions. That is a clear change of course, since he was previously reserved in the hope of diplomatic progress.
