Donald Trump, former president and Republican candidate, has declared that he does not intend to run again in 2028 if he does not win this year’s presidential election. In an interview given on Sunday (22) to journalist Sharyl Attkisson, Trump said: “No, I don’t think so. I think it will be, that will be it”, revealing a rare possibility of ending his political career.

This statement is seen as a milestone by political analysts in the United States, being the first time that Trump publicly admits the possibility of a legitimate defeat.

Since 2020, he has claimed that his defeat would only occur through electoral fraud, a narrative that culminated in the attack on the Capitol by his followers in early 2021.

The decision not to compete in the future may also be influenced by age; Trump will be 82 in the next presidential election, the same age President Joe Biden will reach this year.

Old age was one of the reasons Biden did not seek re-election, amid concerns about his ability to continue in office due to health concerns.
