The President-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, announced the appointment of Congresswoman Elise Stefanik to the position of United States Ambassador to the United Nations. The choice was confirmed in a statement released to Reuters this Monday.

Elise Stefanik, who represents the State of New York and holds the position of president of the Republican Conference of the House of Representatives, is known for her proximity and alignment with Trump. In his statement, Trump described Stefanik as an “incredibly strong, tough and intelligent fighter” who represents the “America First” slogan.

Stefanik’s appointment marks a significant contrast from the previous Trump administration, which included Nikki Haley in the role of UN ambassador for part of her first term. Haley, who was a Republican candidate for president and a critic of Trump during the primaries, was excluded from the new administration along with former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, as stated by Trump on Saturday.

Stefanik’s selection reaffirms Trump’s commitment to integrating close allies into key positions in his administration. To date, the deputy has not publicly commented on her appointment.

Meanwhile, Trump continues to evaluate other appointments to his cabinet, including meetings with influential figures such as investor Scott Bessent, who is being considered for the position of Treasury secretary. These meetings are part of Trump’s preparations for his inauguration, scheduled for January 20.

Stefanik’s appointment still needs to be confirmed by other bodies before it becomes official, a process that will be closely monitored in the coming days.
