
Trump warns 25% American tariffs on Russian oil, asking Putin to interrupt blood spill in Ukraine in a tense diplomatic impasse.
United States President Donald Trump said he is “p *****” with his Russian colleague Vladimir Putin and threatened to impose secondary sanctions on Russian oil if Moscow was not agreeing with a ceasefire to end his war in Ukraine.
“If Russia and I can’t reach an agreement to prevent blood spill in Ukraine, and if I think it was Russia’s fault – which may not be – but if I think it was Russia’s fault, I will impose secondary tariffs on all the oil coming out of Russia,” Trump said in an interview with NBC on Sunday.
Trump said 25% tariffs can happen at any time, adding that he plans to talk to Putin this week.
According to the report, Trump was “angry EP *****” when Russian President began to question the legitimacy of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and discussed the prospect of a new leadership in Ukraine.
On Thursday, Putin suggested that a temporary administration under the supervision of the United Nations should be introduced in Ukraine-a proposal quickly rejected by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
Russian authorities repeatedly discredited Zelensky’s legitimacy as president, noting that no election has been held since his mandate expired.
No vote was scheduled in Ukraine because the country’s constitution determines that elections cannot be carried out under martial law, which has been in force since the large -scale invasion of Russia to the neighboring country for three years.
There was no immediate reaction from Moscow to Trump’s comments.
Russia called the western sanctions “illegal” and designed to the West to take economic advantage in its rivalry with Russia.
Trump’s latest comments took place after a day of meetings and golf with Finnish President Alexander Stubb over the weekend.
Stubb’s office said he told Trump that a deadline needs to be defined to establish a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine to make it happen, and suggested April 20, as Trump would be in office at that time for three months.
US officials have been pressing Kiev separately to accept a critical mineral agreement, whose summary suggests that the US had been demanding all the income from Ukraine’s natural resources for years.
Zelenskyy said Kiev’s lawyers needed to review the draft before he could talk more about the offer.
Speaking aboard the Air Force one later on Sunday, Trump accused the Ukrainian leader of trying to give up the deal.
“If he does that, he will have some problems, big, big problems,” Trump told reporters.
“He wants to be a member of NATO, but will never be a member of NATO. He understands that.”
Trump’s threat of “secondary tariffs” about Russian oil occurred less than a week after his government imposed a 25% tariff on US imports from any country that buy Oil or gas from Venezuela.
A similar tariff on US imports from countries that buy Russian oil could particularly reach China and India, two of Moscow’s largest customers.
In her interview with NBC, Trump said Putin knows he is angry with him, but added that he had “a very good relationship with him” and “anger dissipates quickly … if he does the right thing.”
