The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated this Friday (6) that he does not intend to negotiate an agreement with Iran until the country accepts an “unconditional surrender”. The statement was published on social media about a week after the start of the military offensive led by Washington and Israel against Iranian targets.

In the message, Trump stated that, after this scenario and the choice of a new leader considered “great and acceptable”, the United States and its allies would work to rebuild the Persian country. According to him, the objective would be to take Iran back from the “brink of destruction” and boost the country’s economy again.

In an interview with Reuters on Thursday (5), the American president indicated that he intends to participate in the process that will define who will succeed the Iranian supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, killed after the first attacks carried out by American and Israeli forces at the beginning of the conflict.

The war began the previous weekend, when the United States and Israel launched a series of bombings against Iran, amid tensions over Iran’s nuclear program. Since then, the government in Tehran has responded with threats and military actions against Middle Eastern countries that host US bases, including the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan and Iraq.

After Khamenei’s death, Iranian officials raised their tone and promised large-scale retaliation. The country’s president, Masoud Pezeshkian, declared that responding to attacks by the United States and Israel is Iran’s “legitimate right and duty.”

Trump, in turn, warned that any Iranian offensive would be met with even greater force. “It’s better that they don’t do this, because if they do, we will hit them with a force never seen before,” he said.
