The president of the United States, Donald Trump, said this Saturday that “after a long night” of conversations between India and Pakistan, “with the US mediation”, both countries “have agreed to a high total and immediate fire.” This has been indicated through a message posted in Truth Social and after the last weeks of climbing of the conflict, with cross accusations and attacks that have left about 80 fatalities. “Congratulations to both countries for their common sense,” added the president.

On Friday, India’s security forces said that Pakistan had launched drones against several towns of the Kashmir administered by New Delhi. The crossfire has continued on Saturday while increasing the pressures of the international community for a de -escalated.

The Vice Prime Minister of Pakistan and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, has corroborated the announcement. He assures, according to the Reuters agency, that it is an agreement of high “total” fire. “Pakistan and India have agreed to stop the fire with immediate effect. Pakistan has always fought for peace and security in the region, without compromising their sovereignty or territorial integrity,” said giving in a message published in his X profile.

In this line, his Indian counterpart, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, has expressed himself, who stressed that “India and Pakistan today have achieved an understanding to stop the shots and military action.” “India has consistently maintained a firm and immovable position against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. He will continue to do so,” he said. Minutes later, a spokesman for the Government of India has appeared in a brief press conference without questions in which he has affirmed that Islamabad has really been who has started the call, in which “both parties agreed that all the shooting and military actions by land, air and sea would stop, from 5:00 p.m. (local time)”, which implies that the measure has entered into force one hour before the announcement.

For his part, the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, has indicated that both he and the vice president of the North American country, JD Vance, have maintained contacts during the last 48 hours with high positions of India and Pakistan and has confirmed that both countries “have agreed to high the immediate fire and start conversations in a neutral place on a wide range of matters.” Rubio has specified, according to Europa Press, that the contacts of the last two days have turned conversations with the prime ministers of India and Pakistan, Narendra Modi and Shehbaz Sharif, respectively, to which he has congratulated “for his wisdom, prudence and sense of state when choosing the path of peace”.

Tensions have progressively increased in recent weeks following the attack of the last April at Cashemira Indiawhich caused the death of 26 people, most of them tourists. India then pointed to Pakistan as the trigger and accused him of helping the attack to be committed.

India has admitted this morning that has suffered damage, although “limited”, in Pakistan’s attack on several air bases along the common border. “India has successfully neutralized most of these threats. However, there have been limited damage to the team and personnel at the Indian Air Force stations in Udhampur, Pathankot, Adampur and Bhuj,” said the commander of the Indian Army Vyomika Singh. India accuses the Pakistani army of having attacked civil facilities within the bases, such as a medical center or a school.

At least 98 people have died during the current climb, which represents the worst crisis between the two nuclear neighbors since the 1999 Kargil War. India and Pakistan maintain a historic confrontation for the sovereignty of the Cashmiro region, from the independence of both countries of the British empire in 1947.
