In a statement on Saturday night, US President Donald Trump announced that US forces performed a military operation against Iranian nuclear facilities, classifying bombing as a “spectacular success.” The statement was broadcast live from the White House and widely echoed by the international press.

According to Trump, the objective of the offensive was to eliminate Iran’s uranium enrichment capacity. “Our goal was to destroy Iran’s nuclear enrichment capacity and interrupt the nuclear threat represented by the largest state sponsor of terrorism in the world,” he said.

“I can report to the world that the attacks were a spectacular military success. Iran’s main uranium enrichment facilities were completely and fully obliterated.”

The operation was performed a few hours before the official transmission. The facilities affected include the Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan complexes. The actions take place amidst a broader military climb started by Israel, which the week before launched a series of explosive drone attacks against Iranian territory.

Data released by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), headquartered in Washington, point out that Israeli drones used in the first phase of climbing were positioned in advance on Iranian soil. This information suggests a long -term operation with foreign intelligence involvement.

The Iranian answer was not long. Tehran authorities launched missiles and drones against targets in Israeli territory. The Government of Iran has classified the attacks as an “act of war” and said its nuclear program has exclusively civil purposes.

The Iranian Ministry of Health reported at least 430 deaths and more than 3,500 wounded among civilians as a result of Israeli bombing. Independent sources suggest that the numbers may be even higher. On the Israeli side, the authorities confirmed 25 dead and about 2,500 injured.

During the statement, Trump stated that new offensives are being considered and that Iran should accept the negotiation terms presented by the United States.

“Iran should now make peace. If not, the future attacks will be much larger and much easier,” he said. He further stated that “there are many remaining targets” and that the actions taken so far have been “by far the most difficult – and perhaps the most lethal.”

Trump indicated that future operations could occur quickly. “If peace does not come quickly, we will reach these other targets with accuracy, speed and skill. Most can be neutralized in a matter of minutes,” he said. The president also praised the American Armed Forces: “There is no army in the world that could have done what we did tonight.”

United States offensive happens amidst the named Israeli operation of “lion on the rise,” described by Tel Aviv as a preventive action to prevent the development of nuclear weapons from Iran. The justification presented by the Israeli authorities is based on intelligence reports that would indicate significant advances in the Iranian nuclear program.

The tension between the two countries intensified after the attacks by Israel. The direct entry of the United States into the conflict marks a change of scenario in the Middle East, where fights have been concentrated at the Gaza borders since 2023. With US military involvement, analysts point to a high risk of war expansion to other countries in the region.

The conflict between Iran and Israel, now with explicit support from Washington, has the potential to affect global energy supply, especially oil and natural gas from the Persian Gulf. The Strait of Ormuz, through which much of these exports, is considered strategic and vulnerable in situations of military instability.

The world powers follow the developments carefully. The possibility of a large regional confrontation puts at risk international security agreements, compromises ongoing diplomatic negotiations and pressures military and economic alliances already fragile by previous disputes.

To date, there has been no formal pronouncement of the United Nations Security Council on American operation or clashes between Iran and Israel. International humanitarian aid organizations warn of the increase in the number of civil victims and the urgent need for humanitarian corridors.

The position of the United States, revealed by Trump in its statement, confirms the escalation of the conflict for a new military phase. Depending on the upcoming Iranian government decisions, new bombings can be executed. The situation remains unstable and the next few days should be decisive in the course of the Middle East crisis.
