Ripple released large amounts of XRP tokens into circulation every month in 2025. In total, billions worth of XRP was released from escrow. But how big were the actual sales?

One billion XRP released month after month

Ripple once locked up 55 billion XRP in a smart escrow system. One billion of this is automatically released every month. In 2025, another 12 billion XRP was released in this way.

Yet not everything ended up on the market. On average, 700 million XRP was placed back in escrow per month. This means that approximately 300 million tokens actually came into circulation every month. For the entire year, this amounted to 3.6 billion XRP.

At a price of $1.90 per piece, this represents a market value of approximately $6.8 billion.

Dump? Not really.

It has been suggested for years that Ripple is massively ‘dumping’ its own token. But according to analysts, that picture is incorrect. Most of the released XRP is redeployed or used for partnerships, On-Demand Liquidity payments, and other applications within the network.

The predictability of the escrow system also helps. Investors know exactly when and how much XRP will become available. This means that the impact on the price remains limited. Even in 2025, fluctuations around monthly unlocks remained small and short-lived.
