In the early hours of Monday, June 9, 57 kilometers from the coast of Gaza, the Motheren sailboat, which transported humanitarian aid to the Gazatis, was attacked by the Israeli army in international waters.
The Israeli authorities had been making an intense propaganda against the action of the activists of the flotilla to Gaza, among which were Greta Thunberg and the MEP Rima Hassan. The boat was bravely headed towards Gaza to break the maritime blockade that Israel maintains around the strip since 2006. All crew members were arrested by Israel. Then this Tuesday the Israeli State deported Greta Thunberg but keeps eight MADLEEN activists detained. The Eurodiputada Rima Hassan was put in isolation for writing “free Palestine” on a wall of the Givon prison and Brazilian citizen Thiago Ávila for having started a hunger strike. Mobilizations for their freedom took place throughout the world.
The organizers of the global march issued the following statement repudiating these arrests.
