The pre-candidate of the PTS in the Frente de Izquierda Unidad, Myriam Bregman, will participate in the mobilization called for International Women’s Day next March 8, from July 9 and Avenida de Mayo, towards Plaza de Mayo from 4:30 p.m.
About, Bregman He maintained that “we have many reasons to take to the streets throughout the country. While the adjustment progresses, impoverishing the quality of life of millions, women are the main ones affected by job insecurity, by unemployment, by the double shift that hides the fact that in this system domestic, child-rearing and care tasks are not recognized as such as work”. “These social tasks, which essentially fall on us, are not paid by the capitalists, despite the fact that they are essential so that other family members can go to work.”
“There is talk of our rights, but the reality is that neither this government nor the previous one did anything to change this situation: hunger retirements continue, piecework, misery wages, job insecurity, and all of them particularly hit to women”she affirmed, and remarked that “while the 500 largest companies in the country obtain their profits from the direct exploitation of workers and from the benefits that the State gives them, we denounce that the adjustment has a woman’s face and we demand a salary equal to the family basket, the reduction of the working day to 6 hours 5 days a week and the distribution of working hours between employed and unemployed”.
“This is the structural reality that neither the government nor the right-wing opposition wants to change in favor of women and their families, and it also has its expression in policies aimed at addressing gender violence,” Bregman stressed. “There is a lot of talk, but according to the Ministry of Women, Gender and Diversity, in the entire country there are only 188 shelters with a total capacity of 2,115 places. What is needed are urgent measures”, he assured, and stressed that “from the Left Front in Congress we have already presented a project five times that proposes a National Emergency Plan against gender violence, which contemplates measures such as the creation of shelters , zero-rate loans to access housing, work licenses and comprehensive teams for care, but government after government is boxed in and not debated. We debate in Congress, but our strength to impose it is in the streets. They only understand the language of mobilization.”
Finally, his partner Alexandrine Barry stressed that “this March 8 will be the prelude to the mobilization that we are preparing for the next March 24th. Together with the non-payment of the fraudulent debt with the IMF and the rejection of the adjustment, we are going to demand again the opening of all the files of the dictatorship and the cessation of impunity”.
