Representatives of different unions and union organizations approached the Lustramax workers’ camp this Friday to express their support against the layoffs and the advance of the labor reform promoted by the national government. During the day, they also brought the solidarity of the union leaders Sergio Palazzo and Hugo “Cachorro” Godoy.

From La Bancaria, a delegate of the Banco Provincia de Buenos Aires and general secretary of the 62 Peronist Organizations of San Miguel He highlighted the importance of the unity of the labor movement in the current context. “We stand in solidarity with our colleagues because today it is their turn, but in reality it is our turn all. We believe that the labor movement has to be more united than ever in a situation where the national government comes to attack all our rights. We came to support and make ourselves available,” he said.

Likewise, he highlighted that the general secretary of La Bancaria, Sergio Palazzo, is closely following the conflict:
“Palazzo is aware of the situation and asked us to come and see first-hand what is happening, to see how we can lend a hand and express our solidarity with the Lustramax workers.”

For its part, Néstor Roja, member of the national leadership of the Autonomous CTAvalued the resistance of the workers and reaffirmed the support of the union headquarters.
“We are grateful that our colleagues received us. It is our duty to be present, as we do in all conflicts. We recognize the courage of these workers who have not given up, who do not give in and who are facing the bosses and to the project that the Milei regime represents to dismantle Argentina,” he expressed.

Roja also conveyed the greetings of the general secretary of the Autonomous CTA, Hugo “Cachorro” Godoy, and assured that they will continue to accompany the fight: “We are going to continue being here, collaborating in everything we can and facing what they call ‘labor reform.’‘, which is not a reform, but a regression of the rights of the working class to the 19th century.”

Finally, he announced that the headquarters is preparing to mobilize when the project reaches Congress:
When the reform is discussed we are going to mobilize. We are in contact with different organizations to be on the streets that day. It will be essential that there be unified action by all unions, the entire working class, popular organizations and political, social and union leaders. “We cannot allow them to continue taking away rights from the working class.”

These supports are added to those of the CGT Zona Norte, headed by the national leader Octavio Argüello (Camioneros-CGT), Sergio Escalante (Gastronomic) and Ezequiel Panizza (UOM). The organization released a statement proposing “unconditional support for the workers and a total repudiation of Lustramax’s actions.” In the statement they assure that this is a case of union persecution, refusal of dialogue, where the Ministry of Labor is challenged. The UTGHRA San Martín (Gastronomic) has spoken in the same sense, demanding the immediate reinstatement of the workers.

Lustramax, a witness fight against the reform that reaps more and more solidarity

The keys to Lustramax’s struggle are, first of all, the rejection of massive layoffs that the company justified with a supposed economic crisis, when in reality the balance sheets show million-dollar profits and activity continued as normal, with overtime and warehouses full of merchandise. The employers moved forward with illegal dismissals, even during the mandatory conciliation dictated by the Ministry of Labor, and especially targeted union activists and delegates, seeking to dismantle the internal organization and discipline the rest of the workers. In addition, the company has been failing to comply with basic rights: it does not pay the bonus, it owes months of contributions to social work, it delays salaries and seeks to make working conditions more flexible, such as increasing the working day beyond what is legal.

This conflict became a true laboratory for the labor reform promoted by the Milei government, anticipating in fact the attack on won rights, the criminalization of protest and the elimination of the union organization. The Lustramax workers, who maintain a camp and permanent assemblies, denounce that the company acts in open illegality and call to surround their fight with solidarity, because what is at stake is not only their reinstatement, but also stopping a model of “labor slavery” that employers and the government seek to impose. Lustramax’s struggle is today an example of resistance and coordination from below against adjustment and labor reform.
