After the coup in Deputies, where he failed to approve Chapter XI of the 2026 Budget, The libertarian ruling party has now failed in the Senate in its attempt to “replace” those cuts. Despite the signing of the general opinion, they were unable to modify the text that came from the Lower House, so the Budget will be discussed on December 26 without the modifications that the government intended.
The rejected Chapter XI contained part of the adjustment: definancing of the National Universities, through the repeal of the University Financing Law; attack on people with disabilities, eliminating the Emergency Disability Law; freezing or cutting family allowances for workers and popular sectors; cuts to the cold zone regime, hitting the provinces most affected by the cold.
What happened in the Deputies and the Senate reveals that the electoral victory is not a blank check for the government and reveals the serious contradictions in its coalition and its allies. The brand new head of the block, Patricia Bullrich, demonstrated once again that she cannot “tame” the Senate, while Minister Santilli promised what he could not fulfill and the Chief of Staff, Adorni, is conspicuous by his absence in the negotiations.
On December 26 at 12 noon the session in the Senate is called. The deputies of the Left Front, Myriam Bregman, Nicolás del Caño, Christian Castillo call for mobilization that day. They demand that the CGT call a national strike as part of the beginning of a fight plan to tear down the adjusting budget and that the labor counter-reform not be voted on.
The setbacks that the government suffered in Congress do not mean that the adjustment is over. On the contrary, Milei and Bullrich will redouble their bet, whether in the venue or outside of it. It is essential to deepen the mobilization in the streets, in the universities and in the workplaces to impose a plan of struggle on the CGT to organize a great national strike that definitively throws out this plan of hunger and surrender.
Unity and struggle in the streets are the only force that can stop this government of businessmen.
