The fracture between PP and Vox in Extremadura has been evident again this Tuesday during the start of the new legislature, as happened in 2023. The negotiation for the investiture of María Guardiola to reissue a right-wing coalition government remains aground, as has been demonstrated by the PP not giving up its votes to the Vox candidate for the Presidency of the Assembly, Ángel Pelayo, who has once again seen how control of the Chamber slipped out of his hands, just like two years ago. years. Finally, the assembly will be chaired by Manuel Naharro, provincial leader of the party in Badajoz and number three on Guardiola’s list. Precisely last December, the PSOE demanded that María Guardiola remove Naharro from her electoral list due to an alleged case of “sexual harassment.”

The PP has not given up its position in the first vice presidency, while the second has gone to the PSOE candidate, who has also added the seven votes of Unidas por Extremadura. However, PP and Vox still have possibilities of redirecting the situation after the gesture that the former have made to not leave the ultras out of the Table, although they have interpreted it as a “crumb” and an attempt to “buy their will.”

The PP has given 10 votes for Beatriz Muñoz (Vox) to become first secretary. The second secretary has been for the socialists and the third secretary for Unidas por Extremadura thanks to the support of some PSOE deputies. All groups are represented on the Board, the control body of the Assembly.

The right now has a month to try to reach a governance agreement in Extremadura if they want to avoid an electoral repetition in Extremadura. Although the transfer of power from PP to Vox in the Assembly can be seen as a gesture to continue dialogue, the truth is that the positions are now very far apart and this has been confirmed by the candidate of the ultra formation, Óscar Fernández Calle, after the plenary session. “Everything seems to indicate that Guardiola wants to repeat elections,” he stated, while accusing the acting president of the Board of “not wanting changes, leading us to a dead end” and of having “zero will to reach an agreement with Vox.”

After what happened in the vote for the Presidency of the Assembly, Fernández Calle has explained that Guardiola was a “slave of her words” in 2023, when she refused to make an agreement with Vox and then included them in her Government, to now be a “slave of her actions” by not supporting the ultra candidate to lead the Legislative Chamber. According to Vox, the PP has not even wanted to negotiate the distribution of power in the Assembly, something that Guardiola has denied.

Despite the disagreements of the last 24 hours, Vox has clarified that it remains willing to seek an agreement with the PP, although it has acknowledged that there is “mistrust” and Guardiola has explained that he will contact the negotiating team of Santiago Abascal’s party this Tuesday to resume the dialogue.

However, Fernández Calle has been blunt: “Extremadurans want more than double Vox” in reference to the fact that in the elections on December 21, they managed to go from five to 11 deputies. In this way, if in the pact with the PP in the previous legislature they obtained a seat on the government council, everything indicates that now they will demand at least three councils. One of them is Agriculture, which Guardiola delegated to Mercedes Morán, a person very close to the leader of the PP, which is why, according to some sources, it is one of the stumbling blocks in the talks.

The acting president did not want to reveal details of the meetings with Vox, but she did reproach them for wanting to negotiate “as if they had won the elections, when they obtained 17% of the votes.” Criticism has also gone in the opposite direction because Vox has criticized the PP for acting “as if it had an absolute majority and refusing to negotiate.”
