The PP had prepared a parliamentary offensive against the government in the restart of the political course after summer vacations. His intention was to take advantage of the meeting of the Permanent Diputación on Tuesday and claim a cataract of urgent parliamentary appearances on account of the historical wave of forest fires, corruption, the “migratory crisis” or the bad situation of rail traffic. But the first opposition party has reaped a wide rejection of the parliamentary majority, which has also lashed out at the management of the fires of the regional presidents of the PP.
Congress has thus rejected the nine urgent appearances of government members requested by the PP. The Feijóo party has not collected the necessary support in any of the voting and, incidentally, has taken the criticisms of the parliamentary majority for the management of forest fires.
The PP and Vox have voted in favor of the nine appearances, and in three of them they have received insufficient juncts support. It has occurred with the petition on the Minister of Presidency and Justice, Félix Bolaños, to talk about the situation of the Attorney General, although from Junts they have said they wanted him to talk about the Supreme Court. Also with that of the Minister of Transportation, Óscar Puente, to assess the railway situation, and with the head of Defense, Margarita Robles. The last two have resulted in a triple tie to 34, so it has declined.
The parliamentary spokeswoman of the PP, Ester Muñoz, has been responsible for defending the urgent appearances of the third vice president, Sara Aagesen, and the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, although both will give explanations for this same matter and this week in the Senate, also at the request of the right.
Muñoz has accused the government of “putting sticks on the wheels” of the tasks of extinction against the fires that have devastated more than 400,000 hectares this summer, a fact never registered before, to slide that the Executive has not put all the material and human means available to the autonomic authorities for political calculation. “The media are not from the government, they are from the Spaniards,” he said.
The Leonese leader, one of the provinces most affected by the fires, has defended at the same time the work of the presidents of the PP, with the Castilian and Leon Alfonso Fernández Mañueco at the head. “The presidents were on the field,” he said, although both Mañueco and Galician Alfonso Rueda took days to lead the crisis management.
“When a community asks for media,” he said, “the answer is ‘tell me where and I take them’, not saying that he is an incompetent,” he said. But Mañueco, for example, said on August 13 that his community had “enough means”, when the medulla had already been razed. On the 15th of the same month, the presidents of the PP claimed at the same time a long list of human and material media to the government.
A fact that for the PNV, for example, demonstrates that there was a “concerted” strategy to point to the government. Deputy Mikel Legarda has asked “not to talk about incendiary terrorism” because “piómanos are not the main cause” of fires, and “not to mention increase in penalties” because “it was made in 2015 and the panorama has not changed.”
“The political rifirrafe has not been exemplary, full of toxicity and noise,” he lamented, to point out that “what until August 15, for those autonomous responsible, were sufficient means and coordinated works in a concerted manner is trocked in lack of everything, lack of help from the State.”
But Legarda recalled that “the forest brigades have criticized the communities for lack of forecast, of media and materials”, and has proposed to delay the appearances that are currently being discussed in the permanent deputation “until the physical and political fire is appeased”, to affirm that the PP “generates antipolytic” and, with it, promotes “the increase of parties that nourish it.”
Also from adding his parliamentary spokesman, Verónica Martínez, has pointed out the work of the regional presidents, and has accused, for example, Mañueco of “marking an ventorro” in August “while the medulla burned” for their absence during the first days of the largest fire wave registered in Spain. The adding leader has compared the management of Mañueco with that of Carlos Mazón during the Dana de Valencia. Martínez has said that the PP is absent when it has to govern “Y” appears for the photo “.
The spokeswoman of Sumar has also criticized the “absolute failure of the Xunta de Alfonso Rueda” who, said, “withdrew provincial firefighters while demanding troops from the State.” Martínez has labeled the management of “disastrous” and has denounced a “non -existent transparency.” “He made up data and hid figures,” he said, to emphasize that the PP no longer speaks of “incendiary plot, terrorism or conspiracy,” a few words that have labeled “political gasoline on a real fire.”
Also from Podemos the deputy Ione Belarra has assured the PP that “others throw their matches”, but they “throw gas.” The Secretary General of Podemos has compared that of the fires with other past crises, such as “The Prestige, the homicidal management of Ayuso with the residences or mazón with the Dana”, and has lamented the cuts of the party of Alberto Núñez Feijóo: “only between 2023 and 2025, in two years that the main communities govern, they have cut 28% the prevention services, 8% Less places in brigades and forest agents: 450 in Andalusia, 250 in Galicia, 200 in Castilla y León.
From ERC, Teresa Jordá has reminded the PP that the powers in the fight against fire are autonomous, and has warned against those who will want to take advantage of the current crisis to “make a recentralization.”
But also the government itself has joined the criticisms of the management of popular presidents. Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska accuses the PP to put his partisan strategy with collective interest in tragedies such as fire and calls the opposition to join a large state pact. “If the PP stops using these tragedies without any political content, it could stick to a state pact.”
His refusal to that great agreement, said Marlaska, makes the battery of proposals that Feijóo announced yesterday for the fight against fires. “This battery of 50 measures is a nonsense when you can work in the State Pact. This contradiction reveals that the use of this type of tragedies is part of the priority policy of the PP. They worry about improving the management of their autonomic governments and in getting involved in that state pact,” said the Interior Minister, who has asked the leader of the opposition “to be more serious” Asked about the location bracelets for fire causes.
Meanwhile, the government spokeswoman, Pilar Alegría, has assured that the Executive is open to listen and study the measures against the fires raised on Monday by the PP leader, Alberto Núñez Feijóo. “We are going to study them, welcome,” said joy at the press conference after the Council of Ministers in which, however, he has lamented “the same behavior pattern” of the PP during emergencies such as Covid, Dana or Fire.
The Minister of Education has specified that when making decisions it will take into account the proposals of the PP “and those of the rest of the political groups.” For the government “it is necessary to work” for a transverse agreement against fires. That is why he has insisted that the Executive “to study and to value all the approaches with maximum responsibility.
Doubts about the State Pact
Criticisms of the PP have not exempted the government to receive touches of attention from its parliamentary partners. Both Martínez and Jordá and Belarra have questioned that the State Pact can be achieved to fight against the consequences of climate change raised by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez.
The Republican deputy has asked that “a forest fund that allows a stable investment in all territories,” while Martínez has been “skeptical” because “the PP was not going to commit.” “They have launched head of Vox denialism and feed bulls such as the incendiary plot. Who will believe that they are capable of a serious climatic policy?” He said.
Hard has been Belarra, who has assured that “in the face of its cuts, in front of the privatizations and the dismantling of the public” of the PP, there is “a government that does not do what it has to do.” “The PSOE Cava and Cava in the well in which we are,” he said.
The leader of Podemos has claimed to reform the Forest Firefighters Law to improve its conditions and has rejected a State Pact because “it will not be worthless.” “The money that would have to reinforce services in the biggest rearme plan that the country has had,” they have settled.
Aagesen, Puente and Marlaska, next week
Nor EH Bildu or Junts have endorsed the requests of the PP, although both have condensed their interventions of the day in one. The Catalan party has reserved for the end of the session, while the Basque has been explained at the beginning. His parliamentary spokesman, Mertxe Aizpurua, recalled that this week the Senate will already hear, at the request of the rights, four members of the Government and for the same issues, which would make unnecessary raise them in Congress.
This same Tuesday will be Robles that explains its management before the Upper House. Aagesen, Marlaska and the Minister of Agriculture, Luis Planas will follow him.
But the government has also announced appearances in Congress for next week. Aagesen and Marlaska, on 4 and 5 respectively and in commission will go on the fires.
On day 4 another appearance will also be held. It will be the Minister of Transportation, Óscar Puente, to address the railway crisis that Spain lives and that has caused delays and train cancellations throughout the summer.
