The Senate of the Nation finally voted to expel Edgardo Kueider. The senator who was detained on the Paraguayan border with undeclared $200,000, coincidentally, was one of the legislators denounced for receiving bribes from the Milei government for the approval of the Base Law.

Speculation about expelling him or not was linked to the fact that his expulsion implies the promotion of Stefanía Cora, the Cámpora senator for Entre Ríos who follows him. And this would be one more threat to the government; a Union for the Homeland practically with the majority of the Senate. Although Kueides was part of the UxP forces, he turned around like others, not to mention radicals and macristas, that is, it is not known for sure, the pancake is on the rise. The government advocated the suspension, because in addition to losing a seat, it strengthens the opposition. With the expulsion, the senator’s imprisonment makes it very difficult for the government to continue pretending to be distracted.

The truth is that Kueider’s expulsion confirms the government’s scheme to buy the votes of legislators from the majority blocs, which helped ensure that the approval of the Base Law achieved a tight 36 against 36 and Villarroel achieved a favorable tiebreaker. It was quite a circus to see how from one week to the next they changed their vote, charges, envelopes, deals with the governors flew, which reminded us of the “Banelco Law” scandal. In the 2000s, a package of labor insecurity laws was approved in Argentina through “envelopes” transferred with that card.

It is not enough to be expelled and “get” a position. That is why deputies and representatives of the Left Front and the PTS, Nico del Caño, Myriam Bregman and Christian Castillo denounced the illegality of the vote on the Base Law and the demand for its nullity, calling on the forces that claim to be democratic or left-wing.
