Forest fires continue to devastate the Peninsula and this August 300,000 hectares have been razed (344,000 in or that goes a year), according to the latest estimates, the equivalent to the extension of Barcelona 34 times. This makes 2025 the worst year of fires of the 21st century. Currently, twenty fires continue at the highest level of alert.

The fires have charged their fourth deadly victim: a man has died when a pump dump in the extinction work of León and another has been injured. He was a worker who was part of the support troops from another province. In total, three people have died in León and one in Madrid. Two of the three Oimbra Brigadistas admitted to A Coruña, 18 and 23, remain in serious condition by numerous burns that evolve favorably and by inhalation of smoke.

The fire continues to advance in the fires of León and Ourense, which together add 39 active spotlights. Larouco and Oimbra fires are already, along with Chandrexa, the elders in Galicia’s history. The flames have also entered the Picos de Europa Park. The fire of Cáceres, in Jarilla, is uncontrolled.

The Minister of Ecological Transition, Sara Aagesen, announced on Monday that “between today and tomorrow” the European Civil Protection Service will send around 60 Firefighters and German vehicles, and between 80 and 100 from France, to combat the Jarilla fire (Cáceres). This afternoon will also arrive two ‘Blackhop’ aircraft from the Czech Republic and Slovakia, which will operate in the same fire. In addition, two vans with high pressure motto are expected from the Netherlands, which will join the two cistern aircraft that arrived last weekend from Italy to face the different fires in León. The Minister has attended the media before the Coordination of Information on Forest Fire Information in Madrid, from where she has raised a “thanks at European level” for reinforcements to the national media. Likewise, the State Meteorology Agency (AEMET) is confident that the end of the intense heat wave that has prolonged for more than two weeks helps control the fires.

Estremadura

At the gates of Castilla y León, the fire advances without control in the front of Jarilla, north of the province of Cáceres. On Monday his seventh day meets, he has already burned 12,000 hectares, and is “completely runaway” on his northern flank and exceeds 130 kilometers of perimeter, so he has given a notice to Castilla y León due to the possibility that he can enter his territory. In their extinction, 17 aerial media work, in a very complicated and difficult access area, as reported by the president of the Board of Extremadura, María Guardiola.

This fire was about to be stabilized on Friday, but was reactivated on Saturday for an unfavorable wind night. It is currently “totally uncontrolled” and without acting in 70% of its extension due to lack of accessibility and the conditions it presents.

The town of Rebollar, about 200 inhabitants, has been evacuated tonight due to the proximity of the fire next to the town of Gargantilla. Likewise, the confinement of Hervás has been decreed, already in the Ambroz Valley and with some 4,000 inhabitants, and border with the province of Salamanca. The customers of the Valle del Jerte spa were also asked last night to leave the facilities voluntarily. On the other hand, progress is being made in the extinction of the front that advanced towards the city Plasencia, on which nine air media have been able to act. At the moment in Extremadura there are seven large active fires and also worries that of Aliseda, which is “active.”

Four secondary roads remain cut by the risk of fires, according to the DGT in its latest update: CC-218 Casas del Monte and Aldeanueva del Camino, CC-219 Gargantilla, CC-224 Hervás and CC-234 Valdastillas.

Galicia

Galicia faces his second week with the wave of active fires, which already affects almost 63,000 hectares, according to the official figure of the Xunta. The fire does not give truce in Lugo and Ourense and gives a break in A Coruña, with the touches fire already extinguished. The Verín has also been extinguished. The Galicia-Madrid high-speed line remains interrupted.

Ourense continues to be the province most affected by the wave of fires, with the most worrisome spotlights: Chandrexa and Vilariño (a single unified fire), with 17,500 hectares, and Larouco-Seadur, with 15,000 hectares affected. These are the latest official data of the Xunta, although the satellite images show that the figure will be higher and that there has been a great increase in fire that affects Larouco, Petín, Quiroga, Rúa, Vilamartín de Valdeorras, Rubiá and Valderas Barco.

Two of the three Oimbra Brigadistas injured, admitted to the University Hospital of A Coruña, remain in serious condition, with burns of different consideration that evolve favorably, according to the last medical part. In the case of the youngest, 18, he has third grade burns with an affectation in 40% of his body. It presents smoke inhalation poisoning and is stable with a very serious prognosis.

The 23 -year -old has second degree burns with 15% involvement of his body. It also presents how the other smoke inhalation poisoning and evolves favorably with a serious prognosis. Finally, the 25 -year -old brigade has second degree burns with affectation in 15% of his body. It is stable with severe forecast.

Castilla y León

The Autonomous Community has active 27 fireworks – new alert level and others on a serious level. The Board has confirmed that there are currently 5,300 people from 76 locations that are evicted from their homes on Monday morning. The situation in the province of León is still complicated, with a dozen of them without control. This Saturday three new fires were generated: one in Almanza, with a very serious prognosis, which has gone to plencia; that of Gestoso, who has passed to Ourense; and that of Cain, which already affects the Natural Park of Picos de Europa, where evacuations have been ordered, and the Cares path. The latter joins another fire of Asturias, and the authorities sent this Saturday night the ES-Alert notice to evacuate the area. In the province of León alone, there are more than 1,400 affected neighbors.

At the highest level are Fasgar, Anllares del Sil, Llamas de Cabrera, Yeres, Barniedo de la Reina, Canalejas, Gestoso and Paradiña, in the province of León, and Porto, in the province of Zamora. With Level 1, Orallo, Castrocalbón, Cain de Valdeón and La Nail, in the province of León; Puercas, Castromil, Molezuelas de la Carballeda and Mahide, in Zamora; Resoba in Palencia and El Herradón in Ávila.

The Porto de Sanabria fire is complicated in Zamora due to a storm with changing winds of up to 50 kilometers per hour, and advances quickly to Ourense. The 1,350 residents of the town remain evacuated. In addition, the bad prognosis of the advance of the fire has forced to have to decree the confinement in the localities close to Lake Sanabria, as reported by the Government Subdelegation in the province. It is estimated that some 8,000 people are in the affected area, in addition to early morning, around 09:15, the Los Robles campsite was evacuated, with about 40 people evicted.

The Mozyuelas fire of La Carballeda, which aims to be the largest in the history of Spain with more than 31,500 hectares affected and in which two young people have died in extinction work in Nogarijas (León), also evolves satisfactorily. And that of Pors, despite some reproductions, it has been possible to reduce its alert level to 1.

The Junta de Castilla y León issued a series of recommendations aimed at all citizens on Saturday, especially those who have respiratory problems, so that they limit outdoor activities, as well as the development of physical efforts that involve the increase in respiratory rate. In the current situation, people with asthma or respiratory diseases must carefully follow their medication plan, in addition to reducing outdoor activity, especially if it implies physical effort. In addition, it is noted that people with heart problems may experience palpitations, difficulty in breathing or unusual fatigue, so for them the use of masks or stay in their homes while this situation lasts. It is also recommended that the activities of the camps, schools or sports clubs, among others, do not develop outdoors.

On the other hand, the environment also advises as far as possible that the windows of the buildings remain closed, as well as the forced internal ventilation systems. In addition, a civil bearing alert to the mobiles in which it was demanded: “do not carry out activities in the natural environment on Saturday were issued on Saturday. Avoid approaching areas affected by forest fires. Do not put your life and that of others at risk.”

Asturias

Asturias will continue in a maximum alert situation before the wave of fires declared in the Autonomous Community at least until next Wednesday, according to the forecasts of the Minister of Mobility, Environment and Emergency Management, Alejandro Calvo. This Monday, 15 forest fires are counted, of which eight are active, another five are controlled and two stabilized or under review.

The greatest concern is currently in the Asturian Southwest and mainly in the councils of Somiedo, Degaña and Cangas del Narcea for the fires from León.
