The evolution of fire, community by community

The fires are sweeping part of the territory of the Peninsula in another summer in which it has become common for the news to open with the images of the fire. Castilla y León, Galicia, Andalucía, Madrid, Castilla-La Mancha and Extremadura are the communities most affected by these fires in full heat wave.

Castilla y León

One of the main foci is in Castilla y León, where there are at least 15 active fires – 12 of them in the Leon province – and with more than 8,000 evacuated in León. There is also a deceased: Abel Ramos, a 35 -year -old man who participated as a volunteer in extinction work. 10 people have also been injured, four of them in critical condition.

The fires that worry most are those of Molezuelas, in Zamora; that of Resoba, in Palencia; and Yeres, in León. The latter is the fire that has completely razed the natural space of the medulla. All of them at the highest alert level. The technical director of Extinction of the forest fire of Molezuelas, Mar Lejarraga, says that it will be a “very complicated” day in the control of this fire due to the wind and the meteorological instability. This fire is already the worst in the history of Spain since 1968, the year in which official statistics begin.

In turn, the other important fire of the province of Zamora, that of Puerques, has changed direction due to the strong wind and is now heading northwest towards the Sierra de la Culebra. In the province of Salamanca, a level 1 fire has been declared in San Cristóbal de los Mochuelos and is controlled from 5 pm that declared in La Bastida.

Galicia

Six fires remain active in Galicia. The wave of fire without controlling the community advances with more than 19,000 hectares razed only in the province of Ourense. The largest fire is declared in Chandrexa de Queixa, which has already razed 5,000 hectares and which keeps the maximum emergency situation declared at the provincial level. The Maceda-Santiso has reached 1,700 and is also at the highest emergency level.

It has been a night that has left evacuations by threat to houses, confinements and several injured. In the fire of Chandrexa de Queixa, which is the largest so summer in Galicia, the regional troops have joined the UME. This fire already adds more affected surface that all occurred in the Galician community in 2024. In addition, at least three firefighters have been injured.

The circulation of high-speed trains of the Madrid-Galicia line is interrupted since 14.43 and during the rest of the day due to the proximity of a fire to rail infrastructure in the province of Ourense. As reported by the ADIF through its official profile in the social network ‘X’, the cut has occurred between the town of Vilavella and the Porta de Galicia station, in A Gudiña, in the southeast limit of the province of Ourense, together with the province of Zamora.

The Civil Guard investigates in Muxía (A Coruña) a 63 -year -old woman from that town in relation to her possible involvement in five fires in recent days.

Estremadura

In Extremadura it has affected the fire that originated in Toledo, in Navalmoralejo. Of the 3,250 total hectares that have burned, some 2,400 have been in Cáceres.

To the north of this province there is another active serious fire, in the town of Jarilla, which, according to the first estimates, has already burned an area of more than 1,200 hectares. A total of 258 people remain housed at the facilities of the Sports City of Plasencia and another 16 in the local seminar, after the evacuation of the municipalities of Cabezabelosa, Jarilla and Villar de Plasencia. The Board of Extremadura has activated the serious situation of the Infocam Plan, has sent an alert through the ES-Alert system in the municipality of Cabezabelosa and have evacuated all the inhabitants that remained in the area, as confirmed by the extreme president María Guardiola in X.

There are also two fireworks: in Casares de las Hurdes and Santibáñez El Alto. A total of 110 EMU troops are working on extinction work. “Specifically there are 110 people from the UME and work, there were 11 active fires yesterday, and the UME will try to attack the most dangerous, specifically that of Jarilla and one in Casares de las Hurdes,” said the Government delegate in Extremadura, José Luis Quintana.

Castilla-La Mancha

The favorable evolution of the fires that they maintained in the early hours of this Wednesday to several confined or evicted Toledo municipalities has allowed preventive measures to be lifted for Navalmolalejo, La Estrella and Calera and Chozas.

The forest fire declared on Monday in Navalmolalejo, in Toledo, has calcined 3,250 hectares, 75% of them however in the province of Cáceres. The fire has dropped shortly before 9 am on Wednesday at the operational situation level 0, after 40 hours of work in a time space in which it became at the maximum risk level. According to Infocam, the confinement orders of both the town and the nearby municipality of La Estrella have been raised.

Nine terrestrial media and 45 firefighters continue working in the area. There have not been losses, human or material damage, beyond some homemade farms.

On the other hand, the forest fire that affected the Toledo town of Calera y Chozas has devastated about 3,000 hectares, which have been completely perimeter this Wednesday and whose alert level has been reduced to zero before 4:00 p.m.

Asturias

Asturias has registered ten active fires during tonight and this morning, three of them in the Council of Cangas del Narcea, which has been the most important focus. Even so, it is already stabilized and, although there are still active eight focuses in points of the Asturian southwest, European and Cordillera Picos, the concern now focuses on two fires that advance from the province of León to the Principality. In the next few hours a hundred members of the UME will be displayed by the Principality.

Valencian Community

The Emergency Coordination Center of the Generalitat Valenciana has requested the intervention of the Military Emergency Unit in the Forest Fire that has been declared this afternoon in the municipality of Teresa de Cofrentes (Valencia) after the impact of a ray. In addition, two districts have been evicted by caution: that of El Gason and another close to the Argonge Rambla. The Cecopi has raised the situation of the special plan against the risk of forest fires of the Valencian Community to the possible affectation to the population and goods of a non -forest nature.

Community of Madrid

A low vegetation fire in Torrelodones has forced to evacuate a town urbanization and several firefighters have managed to prevent fire from approaching the houses after evicting their occupants. The fire in the municipality of Tres Cantos, which began on Monday, was controlled on Tuesday night. The fire has affected 2,000 hectares and a mortal victim has been charged: a 50 -year -old man of Romanian origin, who tried to save dozens of horses.

The flames spread rapidly due to the strong wind and forced the eviction of about 200 neighbors of nearby urbanizations, who have already been able to return to their homes. Six cooling equipment remains in place and the authorities explain that it is possible that “a large part of tree vegetation can survive.”

Andalusia

The two fires declared in Andalusia – the rate in Cádiz and that of Jabugo in Huelva – have been controlled. The infoca is stabilized by the first, which calcined 300 hectares and forced to evacuate more than 2,000 people. They have installed five pumps, a medical unit and several technical groups to control that it does not set again. The flames affected the Sierra de la Plata place, very close to the urbanization of Atlanterra and the beach of the Germans. The residents of the town of Zahara de los Atunes have turned to the people who were evacuated. The authorities contemplate the possibility that the fire has been caused.

The infoca also stabilized the fire of Jabugo, caused by the fall of lightning in the village of the pilgrims, and has authorized the return of 240 people to their homes. The mayor of the town has thanked the “rapid performance” of the specialists and highlighted the role of neighborhood support in the extinction of fire.
