In the Senate of the Nation, the creation of an investigative commission was discussed to clarify the irregularities behind the $ LIBRA cryptocurrency, promoted by President Javier Milei. This cryptocurrency, which collapsed abruptly in its value, caused significant losses to those who had trusted their apparent promise of stability and profits.

The proposal to form the commission, presented by the radical senator Pablo Blanco, raised a period of 180 days to investigate and issue a report on irregularities and possible crimes associated with $ LIBRA. It included broad powers, such as the possibility of requesting information, carrying out raids and taking testimonial statements, aiming to submit the corresponding complaints in case of finding evidence of illicit acts.

However, the initiative did not reach two thirds of the necessary votes for approval. With 47 votes in favor and 23 against, it was only one vote of achieving the required 48. Sectors of the ruling party, the PRO and some radical senators aligned with governors voted against, closing the passage to the commission. Among the radicals that did not support the measure are Eduardo Vischi, Mercedes Valenzuela, Eduardo Galaretto, Mariana Juri, Víctor Zimmermann and Stella Maris Olalla.
