The deadly accident at the Cerredo mine has arrived this Friday at Parliament Asturian, where the Minister of Ecological Transition, has appeared for the first time. He has done so at his own request in which he has been a tense commission, where most of the parliamentary groups expressed his complaints about the lack of concretion in the answers offered by Belarmina Díaz, considering his “evasive”, difficult to understand.

Eleven days after the accident that took the life of five miners in Cerredo, and left serious injuries to four, already discharged, the first investigations begin to show data, such as those related this Thursday in the Asturian Parliament by the head of the Asturian government industry, admitting that two hollows of important dimensions have been located, which would be compatible with the extraction of coal The accident occurred.

There are two holes sighted by the inspectors who, according to the initial visual estimate made from the gallery, because as the counselor has recognized it is not safe to enter them due to the presence of Grisú, they have dimensions that are around 18.2 meters 24.6 meters, respectively, long and between 25 and 30 meters high, with a width of about 0.8 meters.

These are the data that has provided this Friday, in parliamentary headquarters, the Berlamina Díaz counselor, who until now refused from the Asturian government, and that they come to confirm what was an open secret in the area, by the family environments of the deceased and injured. “Some of the workers had been hired for two years to extract coal, something that was known in Cerredo,” they tell Eldiario.es Asturias. Two holes whose dimensions would show, to confirm the activity, according to the counselor, that “the miners worked on the worst of the shamans.”

Díaz, who was the General Director of Energy and Mining of the Principality between 2017 and 2025, until he was appointed holder of the Ecological Transition Ministry, reiterated that if the extractive activity that evidenced those two holes detected, Blue Solving, a company that managed the mine, will have to assume responsibility for the illegalities committed “with lethal consequences”, with lethal consequences, ”since the mine coal, the counselor remarked.

During an appearance at times angry and always tense, in which neither of the two groups that support the Government of the Principality (PSOE and IU Call by Asturies) used their question shift, Belarmina Díaz acknowledged having gathered up to twice with Blue Solving do Permits to the son or the woman of an entrepreneur with pending judicial processes and also ignoring who was truly behind that business framework.

The Asturian counselor remarked in each of her interventions that Blue Solving only had permission to withdraw the material of the Cerredo mine that, allegedly, was already without activity and in a dismantling process, although during her appearance she also recognized that the investigation license that the company supposedly had, as she explained days after the accident was not even operational.

Where Belarmina Díaz did not want to get in the opposition, it was to offer explanations about the email sent by a neighbor of the Cerredo area who, in September 2023, warned of suspicious activities for a mining exploitation that was allegedly dismantled. The mail of this neighbor, in which he also contributed photos and videos, was received by the service of attention of the Principality and redirected to another email of the General Directorate of Energy and Mining where, after a process of migration of accounts, as Diaz explained, nobody opened it up to a week after the accident.

As stated after the accident, the last inspection carried out in the mine, in which nothing “abnormal” was found, said by the counselor and the government’s own delegate, Adriana Lastra, was last September, which would lead to think that the localized holes now had to be done in the time elapsed between that last inspection and the month of March, when the deadly explosion happened. For this reason, from the mixed group, Deputy Covadonga Tomé wondered if the accident could have been avoided if that activity had been detected in time.

Of a “shameful and intolerable” appearance, the forum deputy, Adrián Pumares, spoke while from the PP they talked about the behavior of the counselor with “evasive impossible to understand” and the United Left, whose deputy, Delia Campomanes did use the closing shift, recognized that the appearance had not fulfilled her mission because “there is still a lack of investigation.”

Berlarmina Díaz, on the other hand, concluded ensuring that he will appear every time they are necessary and guaranteeing that “I will continue working so that the whole truth comes to light.”

On Monday, April 14, the Special Commission created within the Regional Mining Security Commission will meet again and dedicated to investigating the Cerredo mine accident.
