Chinese company Deye, which specializes in manufacturing solar inverters, batteries and environmental comfort solutions, has chosen Brazil to open its first factory outside China, which will be installed in the Manaus Industrial Park (PIM). The announcement was made during a meeting at the Manaus Free Trade Zone Superintendence (Suframa) on Tuesday (3), which was attended by representatives from Deye and Suframa.

The meeting was chaired by Suframa’s superintendent, Bosco Saraiva, accompanied by the agency’s general coordinator of Foreign Trade and International Affairs, Arthur Lisboa. Also present were Deye’s CEO, David Ji; Deye’s global vice president of Sales, Alan Wu; Deye’s CFO, Rocky Murph; Deye’s country manager for Brazil, Italy and Spain, Thiago Gomes; and Deye’s director of Operations for Brazil, Italy and Spain, Caio Lentini.

Meeting in Manaus defines investments by Chinese manufacturer

During the meeting, Gomes highlighted the importance of the initiative. “We came here to set up the battery factory and later the inverters, so that we can become more competitive in the national and South American markets, offer better tax solutions to our customers and reiterate our sales leadership in the market,” he said. Lentini emphasized that Deye currently operates in more than 150 countries and is the market leader in many of them, including Brazil, the United States, Germany, South Africa and other Asia-Pacific countries, such as the Philippines and Indonesia.

The new factory will be Deye’s first unit outside of China and is part of the company’s global strategy to expand its production capacity and regionalization. “The expectation is to create 1,000 direct and indirect jobs in both the manufacturing and assembly of equipment,” said Gomes.

The factory in Manaus is in the land prospecting and technical-economic feasibility phase of the project. According to the delegation, production should begin with batteries, expanding to inverters and, later, air conditioners. The choice of Manaus is largely due to the tax and logistical benefits provided by the Manaus Free Trade Zone (ZFM).

Suframa’s superintendent, Bosco Saraiva, reinforced the agency’s support for new investments. “Suframa is always open to supporting investments that drive the development of our region. Deye’s interest in installing its first factory here is a reflection of the competitiveness and advantages that the Manaus Industrial Hub offers,” he emphasized.
