Whereas the worldwide stock markets still had to deal with their worst days in years at the beginning of April, sentiment has now completely changed. In the United States we even saw a strikingly powerful recovery last week. The reason? President Trump temporarily mitigated the import tariffs, and the US central bank also proved to be committed.

The S&P 500 jumped up 1.8% and the Nasdaq 100 even added a little more with 1.9%. This made it the best week for US shares since the end of 2023.

Trump temporarily soften import tariffs

The cover in the market sentiment was partly caused by an unexpected announcement by President Trump on April 9, 2025. He announced that he temporarily relaxes the previously increased import rates for most countries. In concrete terms, this means a 90 -day break at the increased rates, with more than 75 countries now a reduced basic rate of 10% applies – with they have not taken countermeasures against the American trade pressure.

It didn’t stop there. Trump added another expansion to the policy: various electronic products, including smartphones, PCs and computer screens, are currently fully exempt from extra levies. That news was enthusiastically received by investors and immediately gave air to a tense market.

Federal Reserve reassures investors

As if that wasn’t enough, the US central bank also started moving. Susan Collins, chairman of the Boston Fed, stated that the Federal Reserve is “absolutely prepared” to intervene when the markets become restless. Those reassuring words offered investors extra trust and ensured a positive end to the trade week.

Her statements wandered the hope that the central bank is willing to lower the interest when the situation requires it. And that is precisely the signal that financial markets, and certainly also the crypto sector, have been looking forward to for some time. After all, an interest reduction could mean a substantial capital injection for risky markets.
