Data from old Twitter users can facilitate Grok Artificial Intelligence tool training, Elon Musk bet to break chatgpt and deepseek competitors.
Billionaire Elon Musk announced on Friday (28/3) the sale of the social network X (former Twitter) to his Xai Artificial Intelligence Company (AI), through a stock purchase operation, aiming to combine his data, capabilities and resources-and possibly facilitate Grok, Artificial Intelligence Tool launched by ChatgPT and Chinese Deepsek.
The transaction, worth 33 billion dollars (about $ 190 billion), would add to the $ 480 billion ($ 480 billion) of Xai, already disregarded $ 12 billion in 2022, when Musk paid $ 44 billion by the platform that was still called Twitter.
“The future of Xai and X are intertwined. Today we officially took the step to combine data, models, computing, distribution and talent,” said Musk. “This combination will unlock immense potential by mixing the advanced AI capabilities and the knowledge of Xai with the massive range of X.”
Saudi prince Alwaleed Bin Talal, owner of the investment company Kingdom Holding – the second largest shareholder of X and Xai – says the purchase meets his order. “After this business, the value of our investments should reach between 4 billion and $ 5 billion,” he celebrated via X.
Details and impact on unknown users
Many details of the transaction are not yet clear. Both companies are not listed in the stock market, so they are not required to open their finances to public scrutiny.
Nor is it known if the purchase will change something to X users. According to Musk, the platform would have 600 million active users.
When Musk bought the social network in 2022, he fired most of the employees and changed users and content management policies published on the platform, favoring the proliferation of misinformation and hate discourses.
And while this has removed advertisers from the network and overthrowing advertising revenues, the recent rise of Musk at the White House as a counselor of US President Donald Trump and head of the Doge’s Department of Government Efficiency (Doge) seems to be making the platform attractive again to the advertising market. According to the DPA news agency, the X would have recently attracted $ 900 million in investments.
Fierce competition in the branch of IA
Created in 2023, Xai launched in February the Grok-3, the latest version of a chatbot trying to compete with ChatgPT and DeepSek.
The richest man in the world, Musk made a $ 97.4 billion offer to buy OpenAi, which was eventually rejected.
Amid the intensification of AI competition, XAI has invested in data center capacity to train more advanced models.
