If you had to put a title to what happens in the PSOE it would undoubtedly be the The ten blacks. Characters with sins or past crimes. Actions with consequences, although not always immediate. The inevitable justice. Human or divine. The past that catches. The anguish. Suspicion. Uncertainty Characters that fall one by one. Koldo, Ábalos, Cerdán, Salazar …
Suddenly, the PSOE Federal Committee met this Saturday with an unexpected script. The planned closure of rows with the general secretary passed for a moment to the background because the protagonist of Saturday had his own name, and was not that of Pedro Sánchez. Francisco Salazar, who was going to be appointed new secretary of Organization in the Shadow, asked to be separated from his functions before his appointment was ratified by the highest body between party congresses.
That was the official version. The unofficial one tells that it was invited to do so. A way out to set a new scandal advanced by eldiario.es, about the complaint of several women for “inappropriate behaviors” of what had been their boss in Moncloa and in the PSOE. Alleged sexual harassment and abuse of power.
Another fire caused by another of Pedro Sánchez’s closest collaborators, but that the president settled in less than eight hours. Doubts? In La Moncloa and Ferraz had many. But in times of distrust, and the PSOE is today a match in which everyone looks sideways, we must not put hot cloths to anything. Neither to corruption, or to the macho or stalker attitudes.
“We are not like the others, nor as the corrupt who have stained our acronym. This party is made of honest people, humble people who would never put their hands in the box. For them and for them we will act with the greatest of the contingencies. We do not turn a blind eye, we take immediate measures,” said Sánchez, in his speech.
The others are the popular, whose way of acting before the first and the second are completely different from those executed by the PSOE. A review of the newspaper library refreshes the memory about the months that Rajoy took to appear or dispense with the services of his treasurer, Luis Bárcenas, when it was already known that he was the holder of an account in Switzerland with more than 50 million. Or, without leaving so back, there is the case of the mayor of Algeciras on which serious accusations of sexual harassment weigh and there is still in office. Or that of the Galician counselor investigated for sexual aggression, which was scarce weeks ago dismissed for his party and the government of the Xunta among applause.
The only evening reference that Sánchez made about the Salazar case was to ask the women of the party to use the channels established for this type of complaints, since in Moncloa it is not consisted that there has been any of the alleged victims.
The obligatory departure of Salazar from both the Executive and its position as Secretary General of Institutional Coordination in Moncloa projects in any case an image of Solitude in Sánchez that worries in the party. Not surprisingly, Salazar was the last ‘Sanchista’ of the first batch that remained next to the president of the Government since in 2017 he collaborated in the organization of the primaries in which Sánchez was measured with Susana Díaz. A time in which he made team – and friendship – with Ábalos and Cerdán, with whom Salazar came to share a flat in Madrid for a year.
In the PSOE, even in the already reduced circle of the president, “a team with determination, knowledge of the party and criteria” is missing after the departure of the presidential cabinet of the now Minister Óscar López. And it is awaited impatiently that Sanchez faces in September a thorough remodeling of the government to face the remainder of mandate and that there is a deep connection between government and party. “Today, we look like Pancho Villa’s army,” says a veteran.
“That the ship changed the helm in 2027”
Those who have been close to the president in recent hours know that he barely gave credit to what was published by Eldiario.es about his collaborator, who rained on wet after the entry into prison of Cerdán and that it was the worst of the news a few hours after a federal committee that, according to sources of the party, had prepared conscientiously with the federations to breathe mood to the cadres of the party and so that he ended up With the president.
With the exception, of course, of the request of Emiliano García-Page so that Sanchez undergoes a motion of trust or summoned elections. It was the only critical exception, together with that of the mayor of Palencia, Miriam de Andrés, who demanded that the ship change the helm in 2027, in reference to Sánchez’s intention to be a candidate again in the generals. This, after leaving in defense of the Castilian-Manchego, by Eduardo Madina-which is not even expected, or yes?-and by Felipe González. Sánchez took advantage of the closing shift to remind the Palencia that the candidates are chosen in primaries.

There is the circumstance that in the PSOE of Pedro Sánchez, something that did not happen in the federal committees, and that the members of the Federal Executive intervene has been established as a custom. Oscar Puente did to attack Page with extreme hardness, whom the president of the conclave denied the replica’s turn. And another peculiarity, until now, is that several general secretaries such as Pilar Alegría, Óscar López, Ángel Víctor Torres or María Jesús Montero are ministers and all requested a word shift, of course, to claim the government’s work and close ranks with the president.
The Secretary General, yes, had forgiveness before the Federal Committee and assumed the error of designating Ábalos and Cerdán, but made it clear that he has no intention of resigning because he believes that there is a lot of homework ahead. He also tried, not too successful, to insufflate a party to an ancient party for corruption cases, while claiming what had been done in the government in the last seven years.
“The captain,” said solemnly, “is not disregarded when bad sea comes, the storm is already taking the ship to port.” The betrayal suffered is painful, after all it was I who trusted them, but the shadow of this error cannot make us give us our responsibility, ”he said. It was his way of justifying that it was not time to resign, but to face the problems and solve them.
Then he listed a first package of anti -corruption measures, within the framework of the party, before next Wednesday he announced a second batch of initiatives, in this case legislative, before the Plenary of the Congress. The objective is to strengthen internal controls in the party, deconcentrate power in the Ferraz dome or implement an anti -arude protocol in the image and likeness of the brother party, the PSC.
Precisely Salvador Illa’s intervention was one of the most applauded, along with that of the mayor of A Coruña, Inés Rey. The first defended that “this disappointment will not tarnish seven years of spectacular government,” that the scandals had been “very painful and disappointing, a very hard blow for all and for the general secretary.” “But enough: we have reacted and we have asked for the hours,” he added. And the second to value women “who are not just bomberies who come to turn off fires.” He did it in reference to the appointment of the Secretary of Organization, Rebeca Torró. For the rest, the day ended with the ranks of socialism to the expectation of how next it may happen. Murphy’s law.
