Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov responded to recent statements by US President-elect Donald Trump about the possible imposition of tariffs on BRICS countries.

In a statement made on Monday, Peskov addressed Trump’s threats, which intend to penalize these countries if they move forward in creating their own currency, an alternative to the US dollar.

According to Peskov, there is a growing aversion to the dollar as the world’s reserve currency. He mentioned that this trend is accelerating among several countries, indicating a possible reduction in dependence on the dollar in the future.

Trump, in turn, argued on Saturday that BRICS members — Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa — should avoid developing or supporting any currency that could challenge the dollar’s supremacy. He threatened to impose 100% trade tariffs on countries that disobey this directive.
