Russia announced that it will not participate in the next peace summit on Ukraine, scheduled for November, as announced this Sunday by the spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, María Zakharova. The statement was a response to Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s plans to hold a second event and invite Russia.
Zakharova criticized the summit in a message on the Telegram channel, arguing that the event does not contribute to the peace process and only serves to promote Zelensky’s approach as the only solution to the conflict. She said Kiev is seeking global support to impose a “surrender ultimatum” on Russia.
At the same time, the spokeswoman reiterated that Russia is open to considering “truly serious proposals that take into account the current situation and geopolitical realities,” including the peace initiative presented by President Vladimir Putin on June 14. She emphasized that a fair and lasting solution to the conflict cannot be achieved without Russia’s participation and without considering its interests.
The first conference on Ukraine took place in June in Switzerland, without the presence of leaders from the United States, China and Brazil, and Russia was not invited. The Kremlin has already stated that it considers any attempt to resolve the conflict without involving the nation to be futile.
