The Russian Ministry of Defense announced a series of massive attacks in Ukraine during the week of December 28, 2024, to January 3, 2025, as part of its special military operation.
The Russian armed forces carried out an intensive attack and 12 combined strikes using precision weapons and unmanned aerial attack vehicles.
Targets included the Ukrainian military-industrial sector, energy facilities, a gunpowder factory, military airfield infrastructure, ammunition and fuel depots, assembly workshops and storage sites for unmanned aerial vehicles and naval drones.
The ministry’s statement detailed the operations carried out by different battle groups, highlighting the significant impact on Ukrainian military capabilities.
Battle Group North inflicted over 3,130 casualties on the Ukrainian army and destroyed 28 enemy artillery pieces in the Kursk and Kharkov areas.
Furthermore, units of this group hit several brigades of the Ukrainian army, resulting in substantial losses of personnel and equipment.
At the same time, Battle Group West caused more than 3,175 casualties and destroyed 13 NATO-produced artillery pieces, in addition to repelling 35 Ukrainian counterattacks.
This group also reported significant advances on the front line, improving its strategic positions and inflicting considerable damage on enemy manpower and equipment.
Battle Group South reported approximately 1,745 Ukrainian casualties and the destruction of three ammunition dumps. The units of this group gained advantageous positions, causing significant casualties in several mechanized and motorized infantry brigades, as well as territorial defense brigades.
In the center, the Russian Battle Group caused more than 2,750 casualties and destroyed three German-made Leopard tanks.
Operations in this sector included the liberation of the settlements of Novotroitskoye and Novoolenovka in the Donetsk People’s Republic, with significant casualties and damage to Ukrainian military equipment.
Additionally, Battle Group East recorded 1,155 Ukrainian casualties and destroyed 23 enemy artillery pieces, while Battle Group Dnepr caused more than 500 casualties and destroyed five ammunition dumps.
Russian air defense also had an active week, shooting down a Ukrainian Su-27 fighter and 559 unmanned aerial vehicles. The Russian Black Sea Fleet destroyed 11 Ukrainian naval drones.
Since the start of the special military operation, the Russian Armed Forces have destroyed a significant amount of Ukrainian military equipment, including warplanes, helicopters, armored vehicles, and surface-to-air missile systems.
This continuation of intensive operations signals a significant escalation in the conflict, with serious implications for regional security and political stability.
