Ripple requests postponement of fine: Chances of appeal increased significantly

The battle between the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Ripple seems to be getting a sequel after all. Legal expert Fred Rispoli indicated in a post on X that the chances of an appeal in the case have increased significantly. This comes after Ripple requested on August 7 to postpone the payment of the fine.

Ripple originally had 30 days to pay the fine to the SEC, but has requested an extension to prepare for a potential appeal, potentially prolonging the long-running legal dispute between the two parties.

Ripple has proposed to deposit 111% of the total fine amount, which amounts to $139 million, into a bank account, where it will remain until 30 days after the appeal period has expired or any appeal case has been resolved.

In court documents, Ripple’s attorneys said the SEC has agreed to this request for a stay.

While the extension request isn’t an outright confirmation that Ripple will actually appeal, it does create uncertainty among XRP investors. This uncertainty comes as the SEC’s lawyers have yet to make a final decision on any next steps, which they have until mid-October.

XRP has been considered a coin with a lot of potential for years. Despite currently being ranked seventh in terms of market cap, the question remains whether XRP can ever regain its former glory. Crypto expert Jay Grissom predicts that if the SEC decides not to appeal, XRP’s price could potentially rise significantly, perhaps even to $100.

According to Grissom, this is especially feasible if banks start using the digital currency en masse for transactions. If his prediction becomes reality, this would mean a price increase of almost 19,000%.
