After the publication of the bodycam videos of the police officers who intervened in the arrests of Liza Rule and Martín Iglesia last October, the CeProDH lawyer and PTS activist Enrique Jasid was interviewed on the program Digamos Todo, on MDZ Radio.

There, Jasid highlighted that “we are in a context where a very large mobilization is expected on Tuesday in the provincial Legislature because they are going to discuss the San Jorge project and the majority of the population has already expressed their rejection”, in relation to the mobilization next Tuesday.

“In 2019 they believed that they had the necessary agreements to modify 7722 and a week later they had to back down because they realized that there was no social license,” he expressed in relation to the growing rejection of the project that is seen in the streets of Mendoza, with actions and mobilizations in all departments. “There is a social conscience in Mendoza that has to do with the rejection of these practices that end in pollution,” he concluded.

In relation to the videos released, he delved into the political responsibilities of police actions: “in addition to the problem of police repression, there is the additional problem that if they are going to make arrests, they have to do it on public roads, the Legislature, which is a public building, cannot be used as an illegal detention center. The cameras that are inside the Legislature have not yet been given to us. There is a political responsibility of the lieutenant governor, who is responsible for the building of having authorized, by action or omission, the use of the Legislature as a detention center”.

The CeProDH lawyer denounced the campaign of fear that the Cornejo Government is trying to install to avoid mass mobilization. In recent days, Security Minister Mercedes Rus announced that those who mobilize would be identified by facial recognition, along with other intimidation measures such as filling the Legislature with police on a day when there was no mobilization called.

“There is an intention of the executive branch to generate fear, they try to prevent the population from going to the mobilization out of fear, but they are wrong because the population of Mendoza has a strong democratic conscience to reject this type of violent practices,” he assured.

To conclude the interview, he declared that “the message we want to give to all those who want to demonstrate is to go calmly, that it is a peaceful demonstration and the lawyers and organizations are going to be there to avoid any police provocation. We want the social rejection that exists with thousands of people to be expressed because they are not going to scare us with their campaign of fear.”
