Digital influencer Thiago Schoba, known as Thiago Schutz, was arrested red-handed in the city of Salto, in the interior of São Paulo, after attacking his girlfriend, Lais Angeli Gamarra, 30 years old.

The arrest occurred after the victim managed to call the Military Police (PM) and flee the scene, according to information recorded in the police report. The case resulted in the opening of criminal proceedings and Schutz became a defendant for domestic violence and bodily injury.

According to the police document, Lais reported being attacked with “kicks and slaps” during an argument. After managing to get away, he called the police and left the residence. She was found by police officers on the street, with marks of aggression visible on her body. Minutes later, agents located and arrested the influencer.

IML report showed at least 11 injuries to the victim

The victim was taken to the Legal Medical Institute (IML), where he underwent a forensic examination. The report found at least 11 bodily injuries caused by attacks, including marks on the face and upper and lower limbs. The document concluded that there was a violation of the young woman’s physical integrity, reinforcing the materiality of the crime described in the report.

The expert conclusions were attached to the process and served as the basis for the São Paulo Public Ministry (MP-SP) to file a formal complaint against Thiago Schutz.

MP denounces and Justice accepts request; influencer becomes defendant

The MP-SP complaint was filed on March 16, 2023. Days later, judge Sônia Nazaré Fernandes Fraga, from the 24th Criminal Court of the Central Forum, evaluated the elements presented, accepted the request and made the influencer a defendant for the crimes of domestic violence and bodily harm.

With the acceptance of the complaint, the process moves to the investigation phase, in which statements, evidence and possible witnesses will be collected before the trial. Schutz now formally responds to the accusations.

Case reignites debate about violence against women and influencers

The arrest of Thiago Schutz, who has a wide presence on social media, resonated among followers and brought back to public debate the responsibility of digital figures in the face of conduct involving domestic violence. The case also reignites discussions about the protection of victims and the institutional response to crimes covered by the Maria da Penha Law.

Recent data from the Brazilian Public Security Forum show that episodes of domestic violence continue to grow in the country, with an increase in complaints and police records. Experts point out that the visibility of cases involving known people can encourage other victims to seek help, although it also highlights the need for more effective prevention policies.

Judicial developments may include protective measures and increased penalties

As it involves domestic violence, the case falls under the Maria da Penha Law, which provides specific protection mechanisms for victims and stricter punishments for aggressors. Depending on the progress of the case, the judge may determine precautionary measures, such as restricting contact and proximity, in addition to determining psychological treatment.

If convicted, Thiago Schutz could face an aggravated sentence, since the attacks were committed in the context of an intimate relationship and involved multiple injuries confirmed by a medical-legal examination.

Next steps in the process

With the criminal action in progress, the judicial procedure provides:

  • presentation of a preliminary defense by the defendant;
  • instruction hearing, when the victim and witnesses are heard;
  • final arguments of defense and prosecution;
  • sentence.

The case remains under partial secrecy as it involves domestic violence, but essential information was released by the Public Prosecutor’s Office and appears in court documents accessible to the press.
