What do you do if your savings are worth less and less? According to top investor Ray Dalio, it is wise to protect part of your ability with alternatives such as gold or bitcoin. In a rare concrete advice, he even gives a percentage.

“I have gold … and a bit bitcoin”

In the Podcast Master Investor with Wilfred Frost, Dalio explained that the current financial system is vulnerable. By pressing money for years, fiat money such as the dollar or euro is losing more and more value.

“I have gold, and I have some bitcoin – but not much,” Dalio said. “If you don’t have a pronounced vision and you are looking for the best balance between risk and return, you should keep about 15 percent of your portfolio in gold or bitcoin.”

Bitcoin as protection against money depreciation

According to Dalio, the real problem is the gradual devaluation of money. According to him, gold and bitcoin can serve as a kind of insurance in such a situation. Not to get rich quickly, but to retain your purchasing power as a fiat money.

Dalio, founder of Hedgefonds Bridgewater Associates, has been warning for years about the consequences of extremely monetary policy. He is not a pronounced bitcoin in favor, but sees it as a useful diversification in a modern investment strategy.

His message is clear: you don’t have to be a crypto expert to protect yourself. According to Dalio, a small percentage of bitcoin can make a difference.
